No plans for power mods. I'm very pleased with where the car is, and it's perfect for autox and time trials. I have to stay within a certain power/weight ratio for TTS, so that makes a difference. My only possible mod would be to bump up to a Green and see how close to 11.0 I can get at altitude...and probably some sort of ignition amplifier to handle all that boost and E-85, since I'm having to gap down to .019 on my plugs due to stock ignition.

Yeah, 245/45-17 Nittos, which are saving me about 300rpm at the finish line.

I see. How are you liking the E-85? I am having an AEM EMS and 1000cc injectors installed on Tuesday, and the car will initially be tuned on good old 91 octane. Once I have a good 91 octane MAP I will then have the car tuned on E-85. I also just ordered an Exedy twin disc HD. Once I get that installed and get some new tires I can head back to the track.

E-85 is magic juice. I don't even mess with 91oct for one second - waste of time, imo. I have a backup emergency tune for 91oct, but it's not tuned fully for full boost - just for driving around until I can get E-85.

We only have E-85 at one station at my area thus far. I need a 91 octane tune as a backup, and if I ever do some long-distance driving.

That's what I have, but you said a good octane map and are doing separate tuning sessions. Mine was just a brief one to make sure it runs well out of boost, and then we went to town on E-85.

Right...I am having an AEM EMS installed and I need a base map on it. The base map will be a 91 octane tune.

If you did 11.3's at sea level that would be insane. I dont see why anyone would want to upgrade the turbo on an evo for a daily driver wanting more power.

stg 3 driver mod. ftmfw


hey warrtalon did you have a alky setup before? why choose e85 over alky dont u notice a big loss of tq?

Here is why:
-costs less
-can get it at the pump
-less weight
-more power
-no risk of failure
-improved spool by about 300 rpm due to all the extra fuel

There is no loss of torque. You can run max boost with even more timing on spoolup.

Damn Warr do you still have a full interior? I am not starting any **** I am just asking. That seems pretty damn fast too me for a IX turbo, especially at your altitude.

The only actual weight reduction I've done is to remove the front crash beam, which weighed about 16lbs on my scale, and to remove the rear seatbelts/speakers. I took those out to get ready for SCCA Nats (autox) last year in SM class, and those are things you specifically can do. I didn't put them back in, because I don't care about the rear sound, and no one uses the seatbelts.

When racing, I take out my rear seat cushions, but I just slap those back in when not racing. I drive my 2yo in his Recaro baby seat in the rear during the week. Yes, it is pretty crazy for the IX turbo at this altitude. I'm as surprised as anyone, but I'm sure glad I didn't stay content with 11.84 the day I finally busted in the 11s up here...

PS. With me, the car weighs in at 3275-3300 depending on fuel levels. Not particularly light compared to others at the top of the list...

Well, if I can get these times at extreme altitude, and people have done high 10s at sea level, then I think it's pretty obvious this turbo is one of the best ever. For being a factory turbo, it is very impressive. I had many people come by the car on Friday in amazement - even other Evo owners - who were shocked to hear it was a stock turbo and stock motor. It feels good saying that after beating a bike heads-up, haha.

I don't plan on doing much else. This is about all I'll do:
- Ported IM
- Ported TB
- Ignition amplifier (used HKS DLI or something)
- Suspension setup changes (no change in parts - just in alignment and shock settings)

After going to the extremes of driving on those bits, I'll jump to:
- Green (or equivalent)
- 1000CCs

If I can sneak up close to the 11.0 barrier at this altitude, it would be unreal.
