More 1/8th Mile Improvements :D

Tonight I took my EVO to the local 1/8th mile for the first time in almost a year.... this is after installing a shep trans, fresh clutch and open dump o2 housing.

At the end of last season I clocked a 7.27@96mph 1.65 60.

Tonight I clocked

R/T .0498
60' 1.5691
330FT 4.5892
1/8 7.1012
MPH 97.63

This is shifting into 4th. I'm thinking either some gsc v2's or kelford 272's might help me with that 7500-8000 lost power that forces me to shift? I'm wanting to break 6.999999 then hit up the 1/4 mile tracks.

No need to worry about maximizing the 1/8th, because that won't translate to the 1/4. You SHOULD be shifting to 4th by the 1/8th. Trying to make it where you don't have to shift to 4th just for the 1/8th would not help you maximize the 1/4. Just go to the 1/4 and get it done - no need to wait until you get 6.99 on the 1/8th.

Anyway, I'm doing 7.35s on 11.51s with no top-end, so you're probably really close to 10s if you do the 1/4.

Well it's more of a personal goal than anything... not to mention they will probably kick me off the track for not having a cage so I'll have to find somewhere else to run.

What does your 1/8th trap look like?

I'm hoping to pickup another mph or two in the 1/8th with a set of cams... I have HKS 264's right now.

very nice, my traps were 96ish shifting to 4th, when I upped the rev limit I was able to stay off the limiter and cross at 100mph in the 1/8th.

this was my first track visit btw

How did this translate to the 1/4? Did the mph go up as well? Did the et drop?

I am at the same "crossroads".

the best 1/4 I've seen was:

60' 1.81 spinning
1/8th 7.36 @ 99.39
1/4 11.23 @ 130.2

after that the exedy twin was worn out and didn't give me clean shifts requiring me to slow it down and it's been more like 96 in the 1/8th and 125 in the 1/4. I just put in the tilton twin carbon and it shifts super fast again but I'm going to wait until the br 2.0 shorty/stage 3 head and bf 272 cams go in this month.

my goal is 10.99 at 130 on 93 octane and I'm already so close that I should be able to do that.

JustChil, for me it's 7.35 @ 93.xx. I get all of my time in the first 1/8th - mainly the first 330', and from there it's just a long pull in 4th with stock turbo and high altitude, so it's not that impressive on the back half. You probably have plenty on the back half with the Green and low elevation. I see you doing 10.9-11.1 on the run above.

So it looks like we all have very similar goals...
My pump gas #'s last night..

1.668 60ft
4.753
7.299 @ 95.21
9.497
11.324 @ 124mph

My rev limiter is set to 8300 and for the most part I shift at 8k. I think I'm 'leaving something on the table.'

I'm heading out Friday for one more round of 1/8th mile fun then off to some 1/4 action.

I need to figure out what to improve on either with the car/tune/driving so I can go faster!

I went out again last night and improved even more. I'm having a time getting the 1.5x 60's once the sun goes down for a little while. I got to the track really late so I didn't have much time to adjust things around to get to my goal

My trap speed has picked up a bit.. I'd say running at night probably helped this. I had a couple 99.xx in the 7.1-2 range as well.

Yeah, it's usually a trade-off of raised traps along with less traction as night falls.

I think the best time to race is an event that starts in the morning with low humidity, cool temps, and fresh VHT.

No doubt. I wish they had some daytime events... it opens at 6 but I didn't get there until after dark.

Thanks! The RPM launch was at 6500.. I normally launch anywhere from 6200 to 6500 depending on how things are hooking up. For some reason I was getting a little bog this time out... I'm not sure if it was the clutch being hot from hot lapping or the tires hooking up more than usual.

I'm not 100% on the shift points due to my laptop getting thrown around like a rag doll (I need a mount for it). I normally try to shift around 7200-7300 and maybe 7400 in 3rd gear. I need to work on this some and I also need some more aggressive cams to help out the higher rpms.

I'm running a larger tire but the car needs a lil "unf" for the higher rpms... 1/4 mile would probably make this easier to see... The weight reduction helps it now though!

Try the seatbelt. I keep my 10lb 17" screen laptop strapped down tight by just using the regular 3pt seatbelt. Learned it from my man Tobz, and it works like a charm.

I only have the drivers seat in when I'm racing That's what I do when I'm tuning normally though.
