That was funny! You've got to be the coolest drag racer I've ever seen! When you made one of your qualifying passes with no helmet and sunglasses on, I was like...my hero!

I was one of the guys in BR's dyno waiting room when Al was tuning the new STI. Didn't realize you hated your EVO so much! It was a pleasure talking with you.

This Amigo will come to C-Bus and play if they aren't enforcing the cage rules! I need to redeem myself after my crappy showing at the Shootout!

I spoke with the operator of the event and he said that it is at the track's discretion to enforce the rules that they wish. NTR is typically strict. One of you guys may want to call them ahead before people drive a long distance with no cages.

Not every event is as friendy as the DSM Shootout

Here is what the Import Face Off Web Site says

It is the competitor’s responsibility to insure both car and driver are in compliance with all Import Face-Off rules and regulations as well as all NHRA safety requirements for the vehicle’s performance level.

More comments to add about the race for those of you that want to read them.

The shootout this year was full of the fastest DSM/EVO's ever. This hasn't always been the case but this year was rediculous.

The fact that most of the guys we have done work for this year don't even own a trailer is a true testiment to the reliability of the cars.

Spin2gst was there running 10.20's, drove the car over 6 hours throughout the weekend. A few weeks ago his car ran 9.8 at 149 mph on slicks, he was running a standard radial this weekend.

Slorice was there running 10.1, drove the car over 8 hours throughout the weekend. He was not having a good day, missing a few gears and lost a switch for a 2nd fuel pump, eventually decided it wasn't his weekend and just relaxed. The car is still in perfect shape and drove back home one way nearly 4 hours.

VWJeff was there and ran a bunch of 10.1's and a few 10.0's, again a standard radial tire, spent over 6 hours on the road this weekend. VWJeff placed 3rd in EVO Eliminator.

celica2EVO was there, he has run 10.5 at 135 on pump gas, this was his first race on race fuel and unfortunately lost the clip on the Exedy clutch the first or 2nd pass and was done for the day.

CurtBrown was there, he drove over 6 hours over the weekend, took out some heavy hitters in his 1g, ran a high 9, he broke a u-joint but was able to get the car mobile again and drove home.

evolunchbox was there, his car came up from Georgia on his trailer. He drove it all over the place for the weekend and the car ran a 10.0 on radials.

2.3evo8 came up and picked up his car we just finished, it ran a 10.1, also on a radial tire and was running perfectly at the end of the weekend. Evolunchbox was nice enough to trailer it back down to Georgia on his trailer at the end of the weekend.

Our black car ran 8.96 at 166 mph on a freaking HTA88/Ptrim turbo. This is the same turbo we have installed on customer cars for street use! It's the FP 37r basically. The suspension is getting sorted out on the car and soon we will be going back to the GT42r for some real speed before the end of the year. We placed 3rd in the Q16. Qualified #3 in Q16 and we were the only EVO to run 8's, even on the baby turbo we were running.

Chris Edwards drove his 1g DSM all the way here from Wisconsin, broke a rear diff, fixed it and raced all weekend and drove back home. 11.4's consistently, very nice.

Al from Dynoflash's car gave him a perfect weekend for a change. Running some 9's at 158 mph. His car ran perfectly and he is ready to race the next time.

My EVO RS had a problem on Saturday morning. The car has been running perfectly since the shootout in May. On the way home Friday night the car had a misfire. I figured the plugs were getting fouled. I looked at the log and noticed it had some spikes in the RPM. It did not register. The next morning I was driving to breakfast before the dyno day and I decided to run it hard through 3-4th gear. The car started to misfire and I thought I'd drive through it and clean the plugs out. Bad idea, a lot of smoke and the car was not running on 4 cylinders after that stunt. I took it to the shop and put it inside. It was obvious what happened, the head gasket was hanging right out the side of the block. I pulled the head off the car, installed another one and new head gasket. Fixed, I also fixed the problem which was a bad cam sensor. The reason it blew was the cam sensor was telling the car it was in a completely different load cell than it actually was, the added timing blew the gasket. The new sensor took care of the mis fire.

Ironically, we pulled the black drag car out of the garage to load it in the trailer and half way up the trailer ramp the car quit. I hooked up the laptop because the car would not re-start and guess what it was? The cam sensor took a crap. That was actually 3 cam sensors in 1 week we had fail. Very odd. One customer car, the black car and my RS.

My car was off the pace a little for Saturday, I have not done a compression test to see if anything else was hurt when the head gasket blew, some time this week I will. I had my good friend Kevin Lawson behind the wheel this weekend and he hasn't driven the car in almost a year and a half. Since him and I were on our own to figure out the shock settings and tire pressures (I wasn't paying attention in the past) it took a few runs to get the car working right. All the passes were in the 9's. The best of the day was a 9.59 at 151.78 mph. Best 60' was 1.54. We did have the fastest 1/8th mile ever in the car running 121.7 mph. For comparison the best pass before this was 9.42 at 155 mph, we just didn't have the MPH this weekend to run an ET that low. I'll get busy on the car and figure out what's going on, I'd still like to get the car into atleast the 9.3's this year.

Other than that stupid mistake I made of running the car ***** out when it wasn't right the car was perfect, drove to the track, to dinner and back home all while not making a single change and being able to click of 9.50's.

The overall feeling of this event was excellent. A lot of smiles, a lot of hello's, a lot of just good feelings. I wasn't expecting it, with all the internet drama that had taken place in the last year I was sure there would be atleast a few confrontations, as with the last 16 years, it just doesn't seem to happen.

I got to meet Junior and Mike from TurboTrix who were both very nice and introduced themselves to me. We exchanged a few comments and moved on.

Raceman was there with Rolo and the crew from CFT, we talked quite a few times throughout the weekend and they seemed to be truly great guys. Not what I expected when we all get our internet attitudes going, that applies to me as well.

I briefly met a lot of people, Mellon, Tom from DI are a few others that come to mind. I really only have a few minutes to say HI and then I have to move on to something or someone else. It is a very very hectic few days for me. Honestly, the best part of each day for me is the evenings when I can sit down with a smaller group of people, relax and maybe get a good beer buzz on. haha

I can't thank everyone enough for coming down, racing and behaving. The hotels said this was the best group they think they have ever had.

There were minimal douche bags at this event. One heckler with 3 teeth missing and some douche bags smashing coolers at the hotel. I think that completes the douche list which is pretty short when you consider 2,000 people being there. To the rest of you, THANK YOU for respecting the shootout and the small towns we have to live in all year.

Tomorrow I will have the dates for next years event.

David and u three amigos,
We have gone to quite a few of the IFO events. Everyone of them had a tech inspection (or lack there of) like the shoot out. Sounds like a fun time. Wish we were still up there to hang out with you all.

I am thinking about trying to do it

Since my car is running so well it would be a shame to not keep tweaking the tune up and working on it to go even faster. Basically there are no import events left here on the East Coast so all I can do here is test and tune sessions.

There is a interesting class there for full exhaust and dot tire I may try

As we get closer to the weekend and see how the weather looks I will try and see if it looks good and IF I can convince my wife not to flip out. It would be great to have a chance to stop by and visit with my crew chief Eddie again also.

I can't tell you how appreciative I am of all the help of Buschur Racing with my car. To complete the event and have a chance to do some real racing without having to work about any parts breaking or any mishaps was really a wonderful feeling. The Buschur engine is bullet proof and certainly can take some real abuse and power. Its been a long time since I have had the car this well sorted out and able to run and race in a consistant manner, its a good feeling to have a reliable good running car underneath you.

I am feeling very pleased with my decision to go down to the Gt37, and the results are showing that with some more dialing in that turbo will be able to match my Gt42 results and possible more.
