Post 1st trip to drag strip

Hey, I have been on this site long before I owned an evo and about 2-3 months ago I finally got my dream car. Its an 05 evo ssl apexi silver. Just thought I would introduce myself somewhat.

Anyways 10-11-08 was my 1st trip to a drag strip in an AWD car and 1st time in my evo. I have practiced my 2-step launching (stock 5500rpm) in un-populated parking lots and have got good at it.

My slips are in order as follows

2.0449 60 ft.
8.5659 1/8th
13.2968 1/4mi
94.41 MPH

^This pass I ended up stopping because I thought I had passed the finish but have not haha.

1.8623 60 ft.
8.3426 1/8th
12.9777 1/4mi
102.10 MPH

^This was my best pass of the day and I was pleased all I wanted was to be in the 12's

1.8372 60 ft.
8.3434 1/8th
13.2618 1/4mi
100.53 MPH

^This pass was going great until I missed 4th gear

1.8334 60 ft.
8.3932 1/8th
13.0783 1/4mi
101.20 MPH

Last pass of the day, then its was time to party

All these passes were done on $hit all season tires spinning all 1st gear and the track does not have very good prep eather. My mods are as listed in my sig but still have the BC 272's in. Putting HKS in next week. Only Tune is a Buschur Reflash with the exhaust, filter and boost upped to 21ish psi. all other mods are still un-tuned. Im waiting for my HTA35r Buschur kit and some 1000cc injectors to tune it.

So my question is are these an average time for what I have done and the crap tires? Also, should I be hitting 5th gear in the Qt. because I was(shifting at 6500-7k).Any input comments and so forth would be great

What should I be working on? I want to do the best I can and I know there have to be ways to improve even better.

Congrats on your Evo purchase.
You def. need a tune. Mph is anemic for your mod list.
Once your tuned work on your 60ft's.
Street launch and track launches are totally different surfaces. Play around with tire press.
Shifting is pretty good considering you hit 12's with only 102mph.

Last pass is mind boggling for me..9.4 in the 1/8 and still got a 13.0@101 ???
Yet 8.3-8.5 and 13.2 in the others.

Yea I am spinning terribly all through 1st gear off the 2step because of my garbage all season michelin tires. Thanks everyone for the positive feed back. like I said before tho I am waiting to tune it until the larger turbo this winter and when I put the HKS 272s in and get rid of the BC's. My wideband o2 reads high 10's low 11's so I know it could really use a tune but the car will be staying as is until next season probably. Is it normal to hit 5th gear in the Qt?

I will def. play with tire press. next time I completely forgot about doing that.

I knew that track and street launchs are diff but this track basically is a street there track prep is bad compaired to most tracks around here. I might try going to Norwalk to see if i can grab better.

As for my shifting, I thought I did amazing. My pass I missed 4th sucked tho, didnt have my clutch all the way in

You have the BC272s and you are untuned for them?

lol, that's almost signature worthy.

I'd say leave your tire pressure alone and stop trying to make more power (although I would tune for those cams ) . Currently, you're not making enough power to worry about tire pressure unless it was WAY off or you were trying to launch under really strange conditions. And tire quality at this hp level really shouldn't be making a huge difference either.

Work on launching. Even if you only took .15sec off your 60', it would put you at at least a 12.7.
