First time at the drag strip
First time at the drag strip
Like the title says...this was my first time drag racing. I had a hell of a time trying to get the launch control to work properly, but could never get right. I have used it before, messing around with no issues, but I couldn't seem to get it to work last night. The poor 60' times are most likely do to this, but I finally got a decent launch by round five and ran my best time.
I know these aren't the best times, but hopefully they get better with more practice.
1st Round:
60' 2.658
1/8 9.319
1/4 13.981
MPH 104
2nd Round:
60' 2.768
1/8 9.423
1/4 14.082
MPH 105
3rd Round:
60' 2.469
1/8 9.064
1/4 13.709
MPH 105
4th Round:
60' 2.476
1/8 9.089
1/4 13.745
MPH 105
5th Round:
60' 2.192
1/8 8.692
1/4 13.321
MPH 105

What is the point of posting how bad the times are? The guy said this is his first time at the track and is learning how to launch the car. Once he brings down the 60' times, his overall times will drop considerably.

Its all about fun anyways.
Keep practicing...I need to do the same!

its a learning process when it comes to getting it all right at the track. good job being your first time on the track with this car. You will get it down, and you will get better times next time. Let us know hwo your second trip goes
Good job for the 1st time man. I still have yet to even be able to run my car due to my slipping clutch. I'm sure my times will suck when I'm finally able to get out there.
I did some research on the launch control and I think I was expecting too much out of it...mostly I didn't fully understand how it worked. I am going to practice with it and take it back to the track to see if I can do better next week. I also need pay less attention to the car next to me, most of them were running 11's and low 12's anyway.
The first three rounds I was trying to get the launch control to work and then I would over rev the engine up to 7k. The car really didn't like that, I got all those slow down warnings in the center screen.
I just need to work with it and not be so paranoid that I am going to mess something up.

When I had my MR running 106 mph trap speeds (right around your power level) here is the method I used.
Car setup and launch:
Traction control fully off (push and hold button until warning), ACD in snow mode, transmission in Super Sport mode and in drive, mash brake HARD at the line, when yellow lights start to drop go WOT and as soon as RPM's hit 5000 let go of the brake weather you are on green or not. If you red light, you can adjust the point at witch you go WOT (second yellow, whatever) don't try to adjust by changing how long you hold WOT at 5000 RPM!
Let the car shift itself from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th, and as soon as it is in 4th gear pull the shifter lever to the left placing the transmission into manual mode, so you can hold 4th gear all the way to the end of the track rather than letting it shift into 5th. When you put on a FMIC and are making more power you will want to leave it in drive allowing it to shift into 5th.
Doing it this way should net you a 13 flat at 105 / 106.... with perfect weather conditions you may pull a high 12.

Awsome...thanks for the advise. I really think I worry too much about the whole red light thing and what the person next to me is doing. I shouldn't really care since I am really not racing against anyone, next time I will launch as soon as it hits 5k rpm.

notice when your 60's are faster your et's are faster too. Try adjusting your tire pressure an work on your launching. Your traps are consistant. You end good, you just gotta start better.
