FP Black 1/4 mile update.
FP Black 1/4 mile update.
Hey guys,
Streetthisevo, celica2evo and myself went out to D42 on Sunday. Had a great time, ran 3 passes in my Mustang.
Anyway, this is an update for the FP Black. Last week I started a thread that got shut down while I was on my 3 day ban. This car made 511/447 in 3rd gear, that was the dyno sheet I posted and was run in 3rd gear at 40 psi on E85.
The day started out with a bunch of 10.3's/10.4's. I suggested that Chris just stop for the day and bring the car by the shop, let us look it over because it just wasn't producing what I thought it should.
Then I looked at the log and noticed something rather odd, made an adjustment and what do you know.........10.18 followed by a 10.14. Best MPH was 136.75 mph. Excellent now, this was run at 40 psi, 12.0:1 AFR's.
This car IS a real street car. It was driven to and from the track. Runs were on slicks.
Full interior, a/c, stock calipers/rotors, air bags, headlights, stock suspension, no lightweight parts. Chris said the car weighs over 3,000 with no driver and I'm guessing Chris is close to 200 pounds.
The build is basically this:
BR Stage 3, 2 liter
BR Stage 3 head
Jun 272 cams MIVEC
Bushwacker Trans
Exedy Triple
BR double pumper
AEM EMS
ID2000 injectors
E85
HKS DLI2
BR ported stock exhaust manifold
BR SS 02 housing
BR upper/lower i/c pipes
BR Race FMIC
BR battery kit
FP Black, unported (oops we forgot)
That's basically it. I'm hoping Chris gets a chance to pull the turbine housing off so we can port it.
Plans are to add suspension and some of our lightweight parts over the winter, this should knock 100 pounds off the car. I'm pretty certain the porting of the turbine housing and a little more boost will put the car in the 9's, I'm hoping we can get that done before the end of the year.
BTW, great having you represent us Chris and great job driving. Thank you.

Very nice times/trap. Chris is a damn good driver - I think I read he pulled a 1.48 60'? Looking forward to this turbo, and thanks for the updates, Dave!
Extremely off-topic, I used to work with a guy named "Jildo." I don't know what nationality he was but that poor bastard never heard the end of it...

Congrats Chris and David for a good prep and run. David you need to push a Black into the 9s. I know you can do it and porting the turbine housing is a great place to start!

dave once again...40psi, are you kidding me???? I would seriously consider a bigger turbo if you want to go nines reliably. I am stumped that you even want to touch this turbo; it's counter intuitive from my perspective.
what's the timing like? crap man if you are hating what I am saying just say it again 40psi! That's gotta be off the comp map and the turbo is past supersonic and will not last long

Counter intuitive.......you are entitled to your opinion but seeing as how the car gained nearly 10 whp for each psi of boost I kept feeding it up to 40 psi I'd say your opinion isn't going to get much support. Add to that the fact this turbo makes 20 psi at 3800 rpm and looks like it is still capable of running 9's in a fairly heavy street car and it seems like an ideal turbo to make a LOT of people very happy.
Believe me, I'd rather sell someone at $5400 HTA86 header kit than a $2000 bolt on turbo, fact is this turbo, like the Red and Green have place in the market.
Will this turbo blow up? I doubt it, the Red that was on the car before this was run at 40 psi of boost to, never had a problem. If it does blow up, oh well, it's the price you pay to go fast.
Run it at 22 psi on pump gas if it makes you smile.
BTW, 40+++PSI FTMFW.

1.48 sixty on the 10.14 pass
1.43 sixty on the 10.18 pass
Parts are being pulled off the car for porting tomorrow and going to Buschur on Wednesday. Hopefully weather is good this weekend as I will give her one last outing this year before she goes to sleep in the garage.
As Al one said "BUSCHUR POWER!!" haha
Congrats guys! Another monster of a car by David Buschur!
Ps. I still can't believe how light some cars are. With half tank and me in I weight 3360 so even if I remove my heavy 250 lbs the car is still a hefty 3110! I have to really read more on those weight saving mods... Lol

The center sections tend to be a bit small and prone to having oiling problems though the Oil filter feed line does help... I still don't think operating a turbo at the end of the compressor map is reliable and I think if everyone out there gets the impression "David said to run 40+psi" then there will be a lot of blown turbos.
However I agree that when that KB Mustang or F458 pulls up beside you flip your EBC to 40+ and ***** to the wall FTMFW!
David are you planning on doing any pump gas testing with the Black?

I couldn't agree more with this post. A year or so ago 30psi on 93oct was nearly unheard of and thought to be unconventional...inefficient. But now it's proven to be a common and successful thing given the setup is efficient enough to run that way. I've ran my Red @40psi at multiple track outings/dyno tuning sessions and 37psi all day long every day on the street. These turbos are meant to run high boost for high power in a reliable manner. If you don't move ahead with the times and what works be prepared to get left behind.
