Yeah, it's an exciting prospect, but I don't know how soon it's going to happen. I'm the only one working (wife is looking), so we are on a super strict budget at the moment.

All the research I've done on the car is very encouraging, though. Thinking I'd like to get into a IX.

All Ive done with my car so far is roll races because my clutch does not hold a 2step launch at my power level. Ive raced tons of cars from roll races and the only 2 V8's Ive lost to so far is my friends fully built SN95 Mustang with a vortech S supercharger (sounds amazing ) I walked out on him so hard from 40mph it took him to 110 to catch and pass me.
Same thing happened against my friends G8 with a TVS 1900 supercharger at 6psi, he finally caught me by 120 from a 30 roll.

The best part is Im on the stock IX turbo at 30psi, hks 272 cams, alky injection, Buschur 3.5" intercooler with pipes, Buschur MAF intake, and Buschur turbo back (no cat), car isnt even full boltons and the fact that a 6.0L G8 with full boltons with a blower that has almost the same displacement as the 4G63 barely caught me makes me pretty happy haha. Its game over when the FP Red and FP4R's go on.

Evos do perfectly fine in roll races.

On the Evo X, roll racing sucks with the stock turbo. It runs out of steam way to quick. But a simple turbo upgrade takes care of that pretty quick.

If you can shift fast you will have no issues. I have 350 Whp and I do circles around V8 cars. I drove on closed tracks. I can destroy lots of cars with no problems.

110%! My Evo is my only car. I drive it to and from school, to work, go out with friends. I drive about 80 miles a day minimum, sometimes up to 200 miles on certain days depending how much dumb crap my friends and I go do, between goin to car meets or just cruising.

What I have found out about roll racing. If you are running a stock turbo it sucks. But it also depends on what you are up against. Bigger housing turbo's are good from rolls. Because of their smooth power band. Stock turbo's spike really quick and then fall off just as fast. The only stock housing turbo's I don't know about are the FP Red/Black. I don't know how they are from rolls. Good Luck to you on your quest.

Yes that I can agree with the stock turbo does fall off hard up top, my car pulls a lot harder from the get go than it does up top but Im putting an FP Red on my car in a few weeks. I usually only try to race up to 120 because the little 16G is just outta steam by that point. No one ever believes my car has the stock turbo after we race lol.

From what Ive seen the Reds dont fall off as hard as the stock turbo does, but obviously still wont be as efficient up top as, say a T3 turbo like a 3076R. But, the 3076R wont make the midrange streetability the Red has, so theres your trade off.

Theres a video on youtube I just watched of an FP Red Evo against a bolton Cobra with a Stage 5 ported blower with pullys, injectors and a tune and its making 520/515. The Evo is on a built 2.0, built head, alcohol injection, etc with the Red at 32 psi and it has at least 3 car lengths on the Cobra and it just keeps going.

I read that you are leaning towards a IX. If so you might want to look into the gearing that VIII's have.

the american V8 is cheaper to go fast. Specially those fords. Cheap and fast.
You will be ok with the EVo from roll racing but will not be as good as the V8's.
Just for the start price is way different. Evo vs Mustang and so on.

But anyway, the Evo is a much better car , and you will find out there is more in racing then roll on the highway...
And from there you will be enjoying your Evo even more.

I did a search, but came up empty handed so I thought I'd post the question here.

How are EVOs from a roll? I know they are built for the track and are launch monsters, but I'm curious how they do when they're already moving and just going in a straight line.

I want the car for the whole EVO package, but I am coming from hairy-chested American muscle, so straight line performance (from a dig or a roll) is something I'm curious about. And even if the car doesn't perform great in that respect to start with, what's it take to get her there?

Thanks in advance for your constructive replies.

Maybe you didnt read the forum rules.

Stories and/or subjects involving STREET RACING will be DELETED.

Racing from a ROLL is a STREET RACING subject.

BTW, only SRT-4's and Euro cars race from a roll. EVOs race from a dig.

well from my experience I think evo's do well from rolls, that's if you know how to set urself up, meaning brake boosting, picking the right gear, and staying in the sweet spot if done right the evo will take off like an N/A motor, I got a chance to run against one of my buddies c6 vette with bolt ons and from a 20ish roll I'll take the lead up til I hit almost 130mph, as soon as I hit 5th he walks me.

5th gear (overdrive) not the greatest for roll racing lol, but its the short gearing (1st-4th) that makes the evo a blast to drive in my opinion, don't need a whole lot of power, like James May said from top gear "it'll take off like a stabbed rat"

just to give you an idea his vette was making bout 460whp, never dyno mine but I would say close to 400whp on my evo

and I agree with boosted tuning on dig racing, a real race is from a dig........well at least thats what the v8 guys keep tellin me

check this out if you want to roll race
2 well over 200 lbs guy in the old V8. Now think about it how much money you need to just even keep up, never mind walk... And there are quiet few of those on the streets.
Even if you find a lightning with some minor mods you will have a problem to beat it, and that is a pick up truck LOL>

i think he doesnt talk about actual street race. He just ask , if he buys one how it will perform against the V8's. Not like i did beat this and that .
Its a border line for sure , but i dont think its illegal here.

As my video above. There is no racing in that video, only demonstration.
