being that your cutting 1.8 60' i dont think it has to do with your 2-step being off, its just practice slipping the clutch. if your tune is off that could make a little difference. but then again it cant be too bad if your numbers are higher than mine.

I run mine full weight and hit about the same with the spare and the back seats out, so that wont make that much difference. using street tires though i run it with the full pressure just like i do on the road. try to run with only 1/2 tank, and try not to go below 1/4 as you dont want to run out mid run.

Thanks for the suggestions. That was probably my last run of the year but I'll definitely try cut some of the unnecesary weight out for next time. My numbers are probably higher because they're based on VDR and not a real dyno but I still like to use it because it helps me see whether or not the changes I'm making are helping or hurting.

Thanks Captain Obvious!!! Clearly I know the time is worse than stock, hence the reason for the title/thread in the first place.

Find yourself a place to learn to launch :-)

Do you have your rev limit set?

Keep your clutch pedal almost to the point of engaging, right before the light hits. You should get a good launch.

Been to the track twice with my car twice. First time was in the middle of Louisiana summer, and pretty bad driving. I couldnt get lower than a 14 flat.

I went again saturday night. I ran consistent 13.0, with my fastest time being a 12.94. Someone above posted my times. Its just something you have to work with.

Not the best advice for a beginner to drag racing!

I don't think your launch was that bad, a 1.8 is good for street tires, for a beginner.

I would focus on the speed of your shifts, especially your 1-2 shift, and then make sure you are staying in 4th gear and WOT through the end of the track. Do not go into 5th gear, and do not let out of the throttle early.

After that, focus on shifting FAST between all shifts, it really does matter!

I lift every shift, and I still go this fast, so you can too:

Thanks guys for all of the advice!!! I'll definitely be referring back to this when I start racing again next season. All things considered, personally I guess I'm not too displeased with my time. It's still faster than a lot of cars on the road today and this loser at work who thinks he's so bad with his SRT-4. Obviously it's not what it could be or what it should be but considering the fact that this is my daily driver I'm OK with running a 13.5 on my mods at full street weight and still having a transmission left to drive home on. My main concern is just making sure that it's my driving that's the problem and not something else wrong with the car. I have had to fix so many issues that I've inherited from the previous owner, an ignorant dealership, and a bad tuner that it's really starting to get annoying. I'm OK with my driving being the problem because that's a lot cheaper and easier for me to fix.

How 'bout some shifting tips for the slow-shifting among us?

Ian,

when you go to the track go prepared, if you want the lowest ET you can get.

Take your subs out, go with 1/4 tank of gas, throw away all trash, and remove all unnecessary items.

Pre-flight the vehicle, check for boost leaks, data log knock counts

what I getting at is go with a purpose, the driving and launching comes with practice.

As far as shifting goes he are a few tips:

1. Don't worry about "breaking the car" this will severely slow you down.
2. Make for dang certain that your clutch fully disengages. (tranny killer right here)
3. Practice executing shifts with the vehicle off, practice clutch engagement and disengagement timing with the shifter.
remember that the clutch must be fully disengaged before you pull it into the next gear.
4. Anyone that says they race there EVO without using the clutch is lying or has a broken Driveline so don't listen to a word they say.
5. Flat foot shifting only becomes natural after you have completely mastered shifting the car as fast as humanly possible while releasing the gas pedal.
6. If you have a stock clutch side step that joker off the two step and hold the F&%$ on!!!!!! (I'll get flamed for that tip but believe me it works like a champ 1.5's 60ft stock doing that @ 400 ft DA LOL)
7. Have fun!!!!!!
8. the most important thing you need to know
IF THE CAR WHEELHOPS AT ALL GET OUT OF IT AND BUY PARTS TO STOP THAT FROM HAPPENING BEFORE YOU RACE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also consider picking up at the very least the front motor mount it helps with shifting

thanks for reading,
Rob J
