What is the rule for the date in the helmet so I know for next year? Mine is a 2005 Snell dot helmet. Is that too old?

Why didn't they just stop the people without the helmets in their tracks and prevent them from running? The rules are there for a reason, to keep your head attached to your body for one! I can see where the short sleeve thing usually gets overlooked depending on how hot it is but worst case I'll just wear light clothing and put the full fire suit on for every run. If they start requiring cages for anyone running 11.49 or faster then it's going to eliminate quite a bit of the field... LOL.

I saw a dumb *** in a white AWD DSM with the tires nearly in the air, no helmet, pissed me off. Had I found him I'd have thrown him out of the event.

I ask the officials to be soft on the cage rules so guys who can only run here each year are able to. I also ask and posted that people need a simple long sleeved shirt, pants, shoes and a helmet. My request was ignored, it will NOT be so easy next year.

JUST BRING A DAMN HELMET OF SOME TYPE, A SIMPLE DOT APPROVED helmet. Long sleeve shirt, jeans and SHOES, not ****ing flip flops. The last man that should have worn open toed shoes was Jesus anyway.

Here is my input on safety.

Weather the car runs 7s to 17s ALL racers and passengers should have a DOT helmet, jeans and seat belts. If the car is faster then 11.49 then a single layer fire jacket and Snell 2010 aprroved helmet is needed. If the car is in the 9.9 or faster then a full fire suit should be required. If you can afford to make your car to the 11s and especially 9s then a few hundred bucks should not be an issue. It's great we don't have to fallow NHRA rules at the event. 90% of you would be crying and MNOT allowed to race. but you have got to be kidding if you can't even respect the "relaxed" rules of the track.

Snell helmets are good for 12years. At most NHRA tracks you need a Helmet that is Snell 2005 or newer to go faster then 13.99. DOT helmets are only good to 14.0 as per NHRA rules. Its the tracks choice to enforce those rules.

It's Snell 2010 now. 2005 is expired from what my track tells me

Beautiful pictures and camera I'm sure. Interesting about the rules.

We always show up and bring jeans and our fire jackets (usually just change into jeans outside the car ). If cages were required, we would never be able to run our evo. We only run it one time a year and that's at this shootout. We're already looking forward to next year. Fun event as always Dave!

Yeah, I was one of those guilty ones for two passes.. With all the excitement of the 9 sec pass, I went to my truck for a water since my heart was beating fast and I was sweating, took my helmet off, left it in the bed of the truck, and only noticed when my lane was called to the staging lanes and cursed at myself, then forgot it again after making my way down the track again.. But that wont happen again... sorry about that dave, shame on me.. I love this event and can't wait for next year...

Are you guys going out to Evo vs STI day at E-town? I believe it is Sept. 22.. They have usually been lenient on the cage situation at that event..

Your local track is wrong. Snell 2000 expired in January as snell helmets are good for 12 years. Your snell 2005 helmet is good till 2017 as per NHRA rules.

I like your thinking EvoDan, I may just make them a step stricter than I had thought originally because I am ticked off over the entire ordeal.

You should David. I feel if you can build such a fast car then few hundred is safety equipment is nothing. Damn even with what I thought was fair is getting away with so much. It's not like you will be walking around the entire day with all this gear on. It's for 9 seconds for crying out load.
