What am I doing wrong?!?!?!!?

Hey guys, I really cannot figure out what I am doing wrong here, but I'm feeling like a drag racing loser, lol..

Mods: ETS Intake, ETS 3.5' FMIC kit, Megan CBE,Testpipe, MXP downpipe, Halman pro RX MBC, ACT Street clutch kit

Dyno (Dynjojet): 341whp/313 lb-tq

With this setup should I not be in the 12's?

My best run on Saturday night..

R/T: .086
60': 1.950
330: 5.610
1/8: 8.717
MPH: 81.18
1000: 11.370
1/4: 13.580
MPH: 103.18

=/

It was very hot out (about 98 degrees) and cooled down some later in the night but this was the best I managed. Still not quite having the launch down perfectly since I just got this clutch.. Even with my old clutch my best is a 15.4 with a 1.7 60'.. What am I doing wrong???

trap is too low......... maybe you have a boost leak???... the temperature plays a large role too

btw i had almost identical times you have with my tbe, uicp, intake, licp, fmic without a tune.

Get your 60's back in the 1.7's (Should be no problem) Either you are shifting slow or lifting when you shift? 1/8 mph is low. Your picking up 22mph on the back half, which is decent. What rpm do you launch at? Just keep at it!

I will probably recheck all my couplers.

Yeah I was granny shifting.

Launching at the stock 2step.

Even the one time I did have a 1.7 60' I want to say the trap speed was like 107 (I'm trying to find the timeslip) and still only ran a 13.4

What do you mean by granny shifting? I mean... if you're just being cautious through 4 gears... it wouldn't surprise me if you pick up a second.

Also, the heat being at 98 degrees has a SIGNIFICANT effect on turbo times. I should start teaching all of you drag racers to calculate the density altitude so you can really begin to understand why and how much the performance changes.

Well I was shifting as fast as I could at about 7k RPM.. there were a couple times I didn't shift perfectly though and got the drivetrain clunk.

Later in the night it was about 80 to 85 I think which is when I ran that time =(

I would definitely look for a boost or exhaust leak.

Edit: I'll also add that I was running similar times with similar mods when I had a leak on the gasket of my O2 housing. I recently got that fixed and it's a night and day difference.

So I came upon this thread in a search and I literally had the exact same thing happen to me at the dragstrip on Saturday....even tho mines a X, I had almost the exact same run as you did, and considering the mods I have, we should both be low 12's or atleast trapping 109+....I've got to run a boost leak test myself...Im currently suspecting a leaking stock bov..

Well, your trap speed is always a good indicator of what kind of power your car is making. There is no should be, it is what it is. If it's low, either you have a much slower car than you thought, or there is something going on making it currently slower.

How quick you can get down the 1/4 is a whole different thing. Reaction time, good 60 foots, shifting, will all get you down quicker. Keep practicing.

As for the first post, 103 mph trap seems a bit low for 341 dynojet. I'm always tuned on dynojet and that just seems a bit off.

Raise your 2 step to 6000 and check for boost leaks, your MPH is way to low for that power level, should easily be 110-112

Thanks for all the replies. I found some older timeslips.. My fastest trap speed that I've ever got is 105. The thing that bothers me is this was right after I got the car tuned (the same day I got it back), so it'd be hard to believe I acquired a boost leak from the drive to the shop from the track (even though it was about a 3 1/2 hour drive. Is there anyway the lower trap speeds could indicate my bad driving, or does it really seem the car is losing power somewhere?

^ Not likely. Even if you horribly bog your launch and slowly creep your way from 1st all the way through 4th, if you're on the gas full on from that point your trap speed will still be relatively consistent to what it should be. If you're not full on, this could be skewed of course. It's strange to think of it like that, but it's true. You will see cars run horrible 1/4 mile times, but have a really good trap speed. That's because they have a fast car, but did not do what's required to get a good 1/4 mile time. Hope this helps.

Don't forget you said it was awful hot. There will be a difference in the real world condition vs. the dyno conditions at English. It could very well be that your car just doesn't do that well when it gets that hot. Check your boost leaks and make sure everything is in order. Go make some passes on another day where the weather won't play as much of a factor so you will get a better idea.

Definalty look things over. I trapped 116-120 with 377whp hp on the dyno at drift office ( set up the same as er's). A stock evo traps 103. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/dr...h-stocker.html This was done with 377whp. Mods were, E-85 tune, cams 272/272, full exhasut, and a boost coller, Exexy twin for a clutch. Stock fmic, stock 02, stock turbo and manifold.
