modded EVO - IS300T
modded EVO - IS300T
Well I ran into one of your Evo brothers the other night(maybe BadazzCR) and here's the account of the run and link to original post. Had a blast and hope for another run.
http://www.is300.net/modules.php?nam...184&highlight=
Well I was out cruising around after getting new tires on today and washing the rig so I thought I'd have a little fun. I was just riding around and saw a Silver Evo going the other way. I flip around and catch up. I cruised behind him through some traffic and took notice of his mods. First it was a clean Evo and looked nice. He obviously had a 3" straight back exhaust from the look and the sound. This definately meant he would have a boost controller and probably more.... Later I'd find out.
We get through some traffic and I get past him. I notice he dropped in behind me(probably because he heard my exhaust and such). After he was behind me I just cruised and figured he notice my "T" at the end of IS300 and would know what was up. I was at a light seeing if the Evo was game as he was behind me and a girl leans out of this Pathfinder and say "I love your car." It was totally random and I was like thank you very much.... you're very cute.... ok back to the race.. The light turns and I take of a little slow and let it get into second and then I jump on it so he knows what's up. The girl quickly drops away..... lol...
When I jump on it, it drops a bunch of fuel and leaves the tell tail black smoke and of course it's screaming as it barks the tires into third. He jumps on it too and so I know it's on. We cruise up to the next light and there's more freaking cars in front, but I stop next to him and we chat. He says, I knew something was up when I saw the T at the end of IS300, but you didn't hit it until just then so I wasn't sure. He asked who did the kit and I said Toyomoto set it up and he knew the name. I say I noticed the 3" exhaust and ask if it's straight 3". He says it is and he has the 3", boost controller, upgraded clutch, and a couple other things.
We make it through traffic and line up w/ a little break. At about 60 or so we liine up and I let him get the jump, big mistake. I wasn't even brake boosting. He immediately jump me by 1 or 1.5car lengths. At the end of 3rd I start to pull a tad and then we have to shut down. We get lined up again and the same thing happens.... no brake boosting and he jumps me by 1.5cars... maybe 1... but we go longer this time and when I shifted to 4th at 6500 or 6700 I was pulling him back in pretty good, but we had to shut down again.
We pull over at the next gas station and BS a bunch. He thought he was going to get pounded so he was happy. Cool guy and cool race... He said that I was gaining and he knew if it went much longer it would of been a different story. But this round I give it to him. Cool guy and nice car. I had my camera on the second time, but I didn't hit start when the race started.. Oh well next time. I know where he works so we'll probably set another up soon. Good times!

thanks guys... after searching the site, it was definately BadazzCR that I ran.
The IS responds well to boost but it's not cheep to mod. The Evo is great to add some mods and get some nice power out of without dropping off a truckload of money at the tuner. lol..
Here's a couple pics of my POS...

Do you have any pictures of your car?

thanks, the wheels are pretty light. They're Volk GTP's. about 41lbs per corner w/ tires... not too bad.
here's what gives away the turbo.

i was gonna get ur "POS" until I decided on the EVO. Definitely NOT a POS. Ur car is like a Supra in 4 door. I wish I had the money to get the IS300 turboed as well as having the evo. I love Toyotas...hehehee
it's still my POS.. actually more of a PITA(pain in the ***), but now it's all fun. during the transition to turbo it was a pain. lol....
puck, thanks man
BluEvo- that's the plan is to get another run up high and down on the low-end too.
TRD- a turbo IS is definately a nice sleeper and still cruises nice. w/ no cat and 3" exhaust though it's not too sneeky though.

What turbo kit did you get? My brother has a '97 non-turbo supra and he actively knows about the 2JZ-GE, so i am very interersted in turboing an is300. I was looking at the $4200 turbo kit at www.nonturbo.com and getting an e-manage. Any details you can give me about what you have would be great.
Delta-
for your brother there are a ton of options on his non-turbo supra as you probably know. Luckily the ecu on the supra is well known and easy to work with.
Unfortunately for the IS the ecu is a real pain in the ***. I hate it actually. I envy you guys for being able to reflash the ecu on the EVO. We aren't that lucky. For a daily driven stock compression kit around 7psi and 320whp it is possible to run a piggyback ecu like the Greddy Emanage. These companies have kits for $5-7k in this category. ( http://www.tbko.com http://www.swiftracing.com )
Anything above that and standalone is really the only option IMO. http://www.toyomoto.com is very good(actually the best) and so are http://www.pfsupercars.com. Toyomoto uses a Haltech and PFS uses the TEC3. Both kits are around $10k give or take for about 380-400whp.
Mine is a bastardized kit that TBKO put together and then I took it to Toyomoto to have the Haltech, msd, and other bits installed and tuned so it ran the way I liked and expected.
turboing the IS300 isn't cheap.

for the whole stage2 kit. around 10.5 - 11 installed I believe for about 380whp daily. Mine was pieced together and then taken to toyomoto to make it 100% w/ standalone and a complete fuel and ignition setup.
The auto holds up extremely well. That's what I have.
