8.77@163 Junk Box EVO/Boostin Performance
your car in person is nicer than in pics and that says a lot Joey. your car is flawless man! its perfectly set up and just as nice showcase wise as it is performance wise. your car came a long way! good luck with the future with it. even though you won't need it
Hey Joey (Fellow RS owner)
Im a road course guy so forgive the noob questions. I understand the basics about intake air flow but why run fully open? I would think ingesting debris would destroy the turbo (risk / reward im assuming)
What does it feel like popping the chute
Peace, Joe

Gaining another 200hp or loosing 200lbs in the car is not everything. Of course it will help and I plan to make more power, but it's all depending on how the driving is, shifting, 60fts etc. It can vary in each car and in each pass. I plan to make more power in my car. I am impressed with my T3 6466 setup, but it's time to make a change. I will make a post in here and in my thread of what's to come in the next week or so.
Thank you for the kind words Tom, I appreciate it. I've tried to keep the Junk Box as clean as possible over the years. It's definitely not easy to keep a black car clean especially when it was a street car and I drove it everywhere lol. Where my car is right now I am very happy with it. I am planning on some changes and getting right back to the track ASAP. I'm sorry I couldn't meet you at the Shootout, but I'll see you next year! I still have a little over 2 months of racing, will see what happens

Having the turbo Front Facing receiving the cold air definitely is a plus. There's no restriction at all compared to the standard placement turbo. You do have the risk of debris, rocks, etc, but most of the FF manifolds today can be ran with an air filter. Back when my car was a street car, for the street I would run the filter. When I went to the track, I yanked the filter off.
Even at the track with no filter, you still have to be careful. Driving around the pits, coming down the return road with people in front of you kicking up stones/rocks can be a problem, but you just have to be careful.
I also love the way FF turbos sit on an EVO. There's nothing like being able to see the turbo when you look at the front of your EVO
If you are worried about debris, I would just leave the filter on the whole time. Popping the chute is a blast lol. I've only pulled the chute 3-4 times. I'm still learning how to pack it so I've hesitated on pulling it at times lol. But it is a lot of fun, and definitely helps slows you down.

I mean I wouldn't say it's as easy as if I had an 11 second car, but I have reached every goal I put my mind to in this car. An 8 second car and trying to drop tenths is hard, but definitely doable.

I updated my thread yesterday guys. But I did go out this weekend. Car ran very solid and consistent. I was fighting wheel spin and the car all over the place. This time of year for us here in Illinois, the weather isn't the greatest and neither are the tracks. I made all 8 second passes, with the best being 8.80 @ 163mph and a 8.83 @ 164mph.
I know the car has a 8.6 or better in it, but I need a track that will hold the car. I believe I am done for the season unless the weather all of a sudden goes to 60 degrees but will see. Every season I want to go out and set new Personal bests and I have. Very solid season for me, and I plan to make some changes in the off season. If I do make it out again this weekend, I will be sure to update this
Here's the 2 passes from this weekend.

Joey,
Nice driving man , the "Junkbox" looks really healthy . I wanted to asks you a quick question . When you launch the car do you let it bounce of the rev limiter before shifting it to 2nd gear or do you chop the throttle? Do you shift it as soon as you launch and it begins to spin?

Thanks Man! The car is running awesome right now, very solid! It all depends on each track day. Each track is different along with the conditions. If my car is spinning bad out of the hole, I do let it bounce off the rev limiter. That Is wheel spin. I don't chop or feather the gas. If it's bouncing off the rev limiter, I let it bounce then shift. The ideal launch would be the car not bouncing off the rev limiter, just squat and go. When I cut my best 60fts like the 1.3s, it doesn't bounce off the rev limiter.
How did I miss this post...?
congrats Joe, the Junk Box Evo has come a long way
Running on that t3 6466 it is a great accomplishment to run 8.77@163 is provably a record on it self
Congrats again

the track has the shutdown uphill which creates the optical illusion of it being "downhill". Can't wait to see you push the JunkBox even farther next Season Joey. Always raising the bar and never disappointing!
