Hobie is right here. It takes a lot of practice to get a good one with a FWD. So start small and build it from there!
Mr. AWD
The best way to launch for me without wearing out the clutch a lot, is to dump the clutch right around 3500-4000 rpms, then modulate the gas, depending how much traction you get..
if you're spinning excessivly after dumping the clutch, ease off the gas a little bit
if you feel you're about to bog, press the gas a little bit
It's a simple balance
ANd it's a "feeling" process..
Once you know the feel and balance, you now have the perfect launch and only need to work on truely perfecting it.

My stock tires couldn't keep grip past 3k. If you're running the stock Yokohamas or Goodyears I'd suggest launching at lower rpms if you actually want traction. Those things spun easier than a CD in a discman.

Very good point. You should never use stock tires on the track unless you dont care what your time will be.
You can't dump the clutch (nor would you want to) just for the sheer fact that in a FWD car, the torque (of which we have a very respectable amount of) off the line is going to cause you some nasty torque steer and eat your clutch. Ease it out. Notice in the best FWD cars, torque is kept down while optimizing peak horsepower: they're not letting the wheels move faster than the car.
Way to raise this one from the dead whoever posted back, but since it.s up what times are you guys with 17's running. Just wondering as a comparison to the stock wheel/tire combo. (I'm still on OZ rims) Also what is your best 60' time. Mine is 2.385 or something of the sort gotta check my post on it.

motor trend actually got the fastest times from our car (evoviii) by launching at 5k and gradually lettin off the clutch...i tried to dump my clutch and floor my **** at 5 k.... now let me tell u awd cars w/ brand new tires are not really supposed to burn out much.... but DAMN!!! i just burned out and went nowhere lol... for our cars you got to ease off the clutch instead of dumping... as for the fwd normal lancers.... stop souping them up! buy a new car... id rather have a integra or something than a lancer if its not my evo
Umm Most AWD cars are launched best by taking the car up near 4500 -4700rpm and slip the clutch quickly.
On a car w/ a clutch that will hold, somewhere around 6500 rpm w/ a quick slip. You don't break trannies as easily. We have a AWD talon 222,000 miles runs 12.6's and the trans just let go after 100 or so passes! If YOU DROP THE CLUTCH @ REDLINE YOU WILL PICK UP LOTSA NICE PIECES.

And what was your 60ft with that?
