1/2 mile times?

Anyone run the 1/2 mile ever in there Evo?

I have a few questions, obv most of us will grab 5th gear. I have plan on doing a couple of 1/2 mile events but have a few questions about it.

Does anyone adjust there tune vs 1/4 mile racing? (example pull timing, or lower boost)

Do people launch there cars off the start or just roll out of 1st?

If you guys have any pointers please share!

I've tuned a few EVO's for the 1/2 mile, one ran 188 and one ran 19x.

I see no reason to drop boost or adjust timing from 1/4 mile racing unless for some reason you are just running the car on the absolute ragged edge and expect it to only be good for a 1/4 mile, which I don't know anyone who tunes like that on purpose. My 1/4 mile tunes are capable of road racing without changes.

Launching makes very little difference although a big bog will hurt you a bit. Just make sure it's smooth.

I gotcha David, my timing isn't very aggressive so I don't think ill have a problem was just curious. One more question I got forgot to write in the OP post. There is no need to add extra fuel for safety reasons? Example running 11.4-11.5 a/f vs 11.8-12.0 (on E85)?

You would have to see what your engine likes on a dyno at 11.4 and 11.8. Two passes back to back at each afr should tell the story. If it doesn't pick up decent power at 11.8 then its better to run it at 11.4 as long as there isn't any ignition issues . Same idea applies to timing IMO. I'd personally run it on the richer side of things and the timing it likes .

I've run my car at a few half mile events, track days and what not with that train of thought.

David is right on the launch. It doesn't help very much for top speed. Gear changes and aero are more important. I run the stock undertray .

Last year I went 149.70 @500whp just running 4th (4.11) out . This year at 600whp and shorter tires I had to shift to 5th and that really killed acceleration. I went 153.5. My evo 8 5th gear is too tall. I'm sure with a 26" tall tire and running 4th out it would've gone faster.

Going off my runs on sunday it took about 18 seconds to do the half mile . Starting at 3-4000 rpm and then getting on it.

Intersting, I am on 4.11FD also. I have a Evo 8 5th gear ratio also, my car making 750-770whp i am sure i will have to shift into 5th. I was hoping to hit 175+ in the 1/2

4th and 5th get a lot of use in 1/2 mile. Tune may need adjustment depending on how its setup. Car sees a lot more heat for longer so keep that in mind.
