Agreed the bad times on the Evo and Sti in Cali is gas related. Better times in the land of 93-94 octane. Kris that is one sweet trap speed for the Sti. You appear to have a strong car or your just a great driver. Maybe a little of both. The way I drive at the drag strip I could turn your car into a mid 13 sec car. I suck!

I think both cars will be as hard/easy to launch based soley on the driver and the condition of the clutch. But for sure, STI is pretty darn fast out of the hole, I saw it in action against my friend's EVO. Both had good launch and by 3rd gear, the evo pulled away. he has cams and basic bolt-ons with dynoflash. 310whp. The STI has catback, and intake. Not sure if he has anything else, bc we didnt really know the guy. My evo is around 270whp, and we go at it from a roll, I pulled on him about 1 1/2-2 car lengths. I have full exhaust except with stock cat, fireball flash, ebc and intake. I hope the EVO will win!!!

I'm definately not a troll. I'm an STi owner that appreciates both cars.

I'm just loving the EVO bias in this thread. The STi and the EVO are very driver dependent. It basically a drivers race. I would put my money on the best driver (stock vs stock)

To say a modded STi with NOS would only run low to mid 13s -which I've read, is absolutely rediculous (unless the driver is absolutely terrible)

Also, I don't live in California with 91 Octane gas, so I really can't comment on the lack of performance from cars there. All I know is that I know a bunch of guys running 12.9s - 13.0s in bone stock STi's. I also know quite a few guys that are running 12.6 - 12.8 with just exhaust, intake, and some using boost controllers.

I personally ran 13.0 @ 104 with just exhaust and 12.8 @ 105 with intake, exhaust, 16 psi.

So I find it funny when guys claim STis only run mid 13s with basic mods - which I read in another thread in this forum.

The EVO is the same way. I don't judge the performance of an EVO on the dozens of guys only running high 13s- low 14s in them. I know that a skilled driver is very capable of pulling low 13s in a stock EVO.

So to get on the point of this thread. A guy with a modded STi
(exhaust, intake, boost controller, and NOS) should easily be able to pull low 12s if not better. Heck guys are pulling 12.6 with those mods without NOS.
The problem is the NOS. I don't know too many guys spraying their STis. If he is spraying he is definately exploring uncharted waters at this point.

Why in the world are you running 115 race fuel. I hope you are hitting the 800+ hp mark. 115 needs a very hot spark (ignition) to burn. In fact, you may loose hp because it is harder to burn efficiently. Most drag guys using 116-118 are running 2 and 3 stage 300-800hp nitrous set-ups, 30psi+ twin turbos, or an 8/1071 huffer. Talk to some of the racing fuel vendors and ask for their opinion (Sunoco, 76, Torco, etc.). If your running under 25psi and less than 500hp, 108-112 will be more than enough. On my old car I ran 14:1 compression with a 350hp nitrous pill putting down nearly 900hp. That was with 116. True this is an NA car but detonation is still the enemy. In my opinion, 115 is overkill for your application not to mention the $6-8 bucks a gallon your spending. Give them a ring.

See, I told you. The STI, for whatever reason, just isn't so fast in drag applications as of yet. Good job WHOA.

That's because of its gearing. The STi 5th gear is really tall, and they totally lay down on the 4-5 upshift.

I believe the outcome of the race was determined by the driver's, and not so much by the cars. What were the trap speeds of each car? With those mods, the STi is easily good for 12's. I've gone 13.3@98(messed up the 4-5 shift) and 13.3@101(messed up launch) in my stock STi.
I also don't think 5th gear is a problem because you're just getting into it at the end of the 1/4, shouldn't have too much effect on times....might drop the trap speed a little.
