whats my chances against this STi?

I also don't think 5th gear is a problem because you're just getting into it at the end of the 1/4, shouldn't have too much effect on times....might drop the trap speed a little.

Awhile back when I had only $500 in mods, I went 12.91@107mph. Most WRX friends that run 12.80s are only trapping 105mph. STi acceleration from about ~95mph-120mph is pretty tepid. From ~120mph-135mph, they're a good amount stronger than the Evo, but obviously, that's not really usable speed unless you're on a roadcourse with a pretty amazing straight.
I like the STi, but its gear spacing is its achilles heel. Other problems like its small stock turbo and injectors are much less expensive problems to address.

I don't seem to notice a slow down in acceleration after my 4-5 shift, but I'm not in it too long.
I think the biggest factor in the lower trap speeds in an STi is the torque. The torque the STi generates allows it to run faster times at lower speeds. An STi has run 12.1@113 w/ 319whp. Most STi's that run 12.5-12.8 are trapping 105-108. I believe similar running Evo's are trapping 110+.
Just an idea.

my trap speed was 105 on the 12.777 with a 1.726 60ft and i believe his trap was 106.XX on his 13.3. i noticed on all the different launches that i was being able to use my 4th gear more and more as the night went on. i think if i coulda ran maybe 2-3 more runs i coulda hit 12.5-12.6. im gonna go back with some 100 no lead gas and my new Pruven fmic and rmr piping, and act clutch and some real tires! i was on winter tires that night haha

i did 12.5@110.3 with a leaking tb hose and a 1.76 60ft
and 12.8@108 with only 200 bucks invested
i think people are running lower traps cuz they suck at shifting into 5th fast
i think the STi's short gearbox is perfect....always in the powerband.......it sucks for dragracing....but turning...the short 2/3/4 gears and tq to keep turbo lag out....never caught in a bad spot.....
the achilles heel(sp?)s are the tires.....the a046's are FAR superior to the re070's.....by no comparison......drag racing the re070's are perfect..i did a 1.674 60ft my 3rd time racing the car....but turning....the a046 dominates
and also......
my 5th gear(98~135) is very strong.....when i was stock roll racing evo's(40 punch)...i didnt do that much against them until about 60...and then id pull out...and as soon as i shifted into 5th......i pulled very hard.....i raced atleast 7-8 different stock evos when i wass stock.....and sometimes i would pull earlier...but everytime..5th gear....i walked away hard

Hi, new here..
this thread interested me so this is my first post.
I believe the fastest STi is ESX's STi-- and I know a few people who have run 12.9's stock at around 1200ft elevation, however, I ran a 13.5@100 stock at 5800ft with only 3 runs with the STi under my belt. Also a friend of mine did a 13.3@101 stock at 5800ft. So I think the STi is does pretty welll in the 1/4, it's just the driver's that suck ***.
So what was the result of the race? EVO's are nice and they are ready to make power with a few modifications. good things.

well i wasnt impressed on their potential when i found my friends that have them cant go over 16 lbs, and its hard to adjust the boost controllers they have so it doesnt spike, because when it does, the ecu f***s their timing up and makes them slower than ****, i will stick with the 4G63, tested, pruven, and very modable.
100 dollar part fixes the boost problem
you cant run mroe than 16.5xxx lbs of boost for more than 1.xx seconds or the ecu triggers boost cut
but its easily fixed
and its not hard to tune the EBC if you know what youre doing
if youre a no talent @ss clown...then yeah yorue gonna spike and hit boost cut
but yeah....safe mode sucks cuz the ecu wont advance timing, or add fuel....and that sucks....a lot

i personally think its refreshing to see that both Evo and STi owners can accept the fac that both cars have the capability to generate lots of power. Every now and then I pop over to NASIOC and see what the 2.5L forum is up to. Those guys think I'm FOS when I politely correct them and tell them that ~300 whp in an Evo is only $1k away (dynoflash, 3" TB, MBC).
Meh, their loss
