please clarify

please help me out guys, and please only reply if you know the answer and not just a guess...thanks in advance...

1/4 mile times...
are they timed from when the light turns green to when you hit the line or are they timed from the time your car moves from the staging line to when you hit the line ?

this is why i ask...i have raced this 350z a few times... he has a lot of mods to it, exhaust intake cams etc...i was bone stock at the time... we raced 6 times, i won 5 out of the 6 barring a few mis shifts the 1 time i lost...but the confusion lies when we finish and get out slips, his 1/4 mile time would be a bit faster, like say at the time... 13.5 him to 13.7 me and his mph would be like 105 or so and mine like 102 103 etc..... but i would win from start to finish. the only explanation is that because i hit a .6 off the line reaction time, and he was always .8 to 1.4 or so...that the time isnt actually measured from when the light goes green to finish, but when you move from the start line to finish ? is this correct ? thanks for the help guys...jason

If the autostart option is on (which is true at the track in my town), the timer doesn't kick off until you cross the line. It sounds like you had a faster reaction time, but the Z is the faster car in both ET and Trap.

btw, a .8 or 1.4 reaction time is just terrible. Aim for something under .5!! My best is .384, if you want to get a better reaction time, take off on the 3rd yellow!

That is correct.
Your timed when the car breask the first beam ... you could sit for 30 seconds at a green light and still run a 12 sec pass.

Sometimes you see people spot the other dude a few car lenghts to be fair. They don't care since if they are the faster one, they can essentially run down the other car and still post their usuall ET and Trap speeds because they don't break the beam.
If doesn't help much if you're working on a faster R/T though!

That is not correct to aim below a .5 .500 is the best possible time. Anything below is red lighting it and if you ever dialed in you would lose instantly. Timing does not start till after you leave the line where the lights register. You can sit there for hours and it will not affect your time. Best reaction time I ever got was a .502 in my Stealth R/T Twin Turbo

Nope. Even with a pro tree (.400 I think) that would be a red lght. With the sportsman tree a perfect light would be .500.

.384 is horrible. With the evo best best it slip/pop clutch at the third yellow, by the time t grabs and crap you should be pretty close to a .5

I wouldn't call it horrible - I'd call it over anxious! I left when I seen the 3rd Yellow, which is what the annoucer was saying to do to get a better R/T. I'll remember this for next time out - thanks.

FYI, NHRA ruling is now .000 for a perfect R/T. It was .500 but now it's .000

My best last weekend at Englistown was a .132

I always thought .500 was just odd.

100% correct ... I wish they would have made a bigger deal about letting people know this.

All of the NHRA sanctioned tracks are 00.00 for perfect reaction time now.
