My 1/4 mile times are slow ... need help

Hey guys. I went to the dragway yesterday, and i ran 14.5 consistently. here's how it broke down...

THE LIGHT GOES YELLOW,YELLOW,YELLOW,GO
reaction: .866
60': 2.36
1/4: 14.5
mph: 95

I dont understand. My friend has a stock STI and he ran 13.6. I need help. I clutch drop at 4500rpm. Is that the wrong way. Also, does the intercooler spray make a difference? Should I not let go of the gas when I shift?

*ALSO, I HAVE THE TURBO XS RFL BLOW-OFF VALVE. DO YOU GUYS THINK IT LEAKS? I HAVE IT SET ON THE HARDEST SETTING. IT SHOULD HOLD 25PSI. THANK YOU

your 60' stinks for dropping the clutch. I was doing better than that on my front wheel drive eclispe with wheel spin. Work on that 60 ft and youll be in the 13's. Later

dude two ways rev up to 5500 and 6000 and just drop the clutch or rev up to 5000 and slowly let go of the clutch but good luck u will need a new clutch with the other method so i recomend the first one. stock clutch is good for a 1.7 60 foot...in my own experiences

Ok you are running 2.3 60's which are terrible. Every tenth down low equals 1.5-2 tenths up top, meaning with a 1.8 60 you should run around a 13.7. Rev your motor to around 5500 and do a fast slip. Don't sidestep it, that is bad for the tranny. Shift at 7000.

Well I can tell you that these clutches are the weakest links on the car. You'll be replacing your clutch between 6k-10k if you abuse it. If you have only had the car for 3 weeks, you definitely need to get used to the clutch a little better. Over time, you'll know what RPMs the car needs to get a good launch and how to release the clutch so you are not burning your clutch while the car sits still or dump it so hard that you'll be replacing it tomorrow. On that note, if your looking to drag race. Take it to 5k+ and dump it. If your clutch goes then get a twin plate exedy or something.

yeah work on you 60-ft and RT. my very first pass tuesday was at the local 1/8th mile track. I'll post a pic of the slip in a minute. I cut a crappy .755 rt/ 1.9 60-ft/ 8.90@ 78mph. depending on the weather I'm gonna go to a 1320 track this weekend. good luck. and on your launch rev to 5500rpm and quickly slip the clutch. if you slip it to slow you want do that great and you'll get a very nasty burnt clutch smell and if you just dump it you spin a little and then bog. you have to find the happy medium.

yr problem right there beside you 60 times. You are taking a car to the track that is not fully broken. You have to wait 5000 miles before the engine fully breaks in

If you are trying to get a good 1/4 time, then dont worry about the R/T. Thats for competition. Your clock doesnt start until your wheels move forward. Just concentrate on your launch. The R/T can come later.
