downshifting

when I down shift, I do clutch in, neutral, rev up, clutch downshift, clutch out(correct?). Now do I let the clutch out slow or dump it?

No Just Clutch in downshift, clutch out. Let it out kinda slow. Unless your turning a corner then you wanna match your RPMS.

If you want the downshift to be smooth master rev matching. That will take away all the "jerk" when downshifting.

I tried downshifting without rev matching and with rev matching. Much less jerking when rev matching.

I'v herd the term "blip the gas" to rev match. I like to do it all the way down to second gear. You shouldent have to revmatch into first.

If I'm over around 25 mph, I usually match the revs and let it out slowly. So that would be - clutch in, rev a bit to make the rpms, then slowly let clutch out.

This is a dumb question, but: But must the rev-matched RPM "match" (or approximate) the in-gear RPM?

I use the same technique. Especially since I always have family in the car.

Aslong as its somewhat close it will match itself once its out, still alot better than just letting the clutch out. It doesnt really give you the slow you down effect, but its alot easier on the car, and I personally hate the jerking. You only have to blip it a little bit because going down gears, ever gear is just a slightly amount higher than the next, if you hit the gas to hard while rev matching it will give you a slight jerk too.

only way to have the less jerk when downshifting is:

1. slip your clutch and wait for the speed to drop to match the lower gear rpm

2. rev match.

rev match is better. saves on clutch slippage and smoother and faster transition.

at high speed downshift on hard turn in anticipation of faster speed exit, always rev match.

rev match is great when you need to bring the gearing down (to stay in boost quicker without dropping speed on turn in exit) revmatch and is great for shifting 2 gears down without having your entire body jerk, in turn loosing control of your steering a bit.

I've observed that on evo, it's about 3000 rpm (+/- 500 rpm) raise or drop each time you shift up or down.

rev matching is fun. Toe and heel is better.

I'm trying to see if I could Toe and heel and throw in a Brake boosting while on Toe and heel, so I wont loose boost or spool up or spooled up while in turn. I think that'll be fun.
