How fast can you make a 90 degree sharp turn on your Evo?
something like that takes skill.. and driving skill cannot be substituted by the car.. start looking into high performance driving and even autocross schools (or precision driving schools) that will help you understand what just happend..
Also, sitting in the passenger seat and seeing something happen is really different than driving it.
I'd suggest you go to an autocross event and start riding with veteran drivers as they can make ANY car turn like the Evo did.
Took me a few years to understand how to toss around an AWD turbo car like my WRX and Legacy GT:

Take your time to learn in a safe environment.. you will find out that speed can be your friend and enemy when it comes into "balancing" the car going into a turn. Too much speed and your front tires wont grip and you will undsteer right into a curb.. too little speed and you will get plenty of grip up front causing you to have a pivot point and you may spin the car out at even lower speeds.. and if you dont balance your car using the throttle, well, too many bad things can happen..
To the person who started this thread: Dont do this stuff on public roads, find sanctioned events that allow you to practice and learn such moves and driving skills via driving schools.

^ actually that is incorrect.. downshifting slows the tires speed rate down (engine speed goes up).. downshifting does not make the tires spin faster, down shifting does bring the rpms up.. if your statement was true, we would all be downshifting to get more mph..
shift locking drift technique uses this gear-speed difference to simulate a brake-lock difference to cause the tires to lose traction on purpose without needing to use the brakes. It's like having ABS activated without having the brakes on..
as for ebraking, it takes some skill still.. I just recently went out and practiced some 90s and 180s and 360s pivot-cone turns and depending on the speed, you need to push down the clutch (to prevent tranny damage) and even use some of the normal brake to get the balance of the car correct.. when you do it right, then you can do what a normal Gymkhana driver can do:

and if you're real good, you can throw a bit of the reverse gear in there too:

Hey Keefe, long time no see.
What brings you around these Evo parts?
I resemble that remark...
Seriously, how fast you can take a given turn on dry pavement is mostly a factor of the tires and their coefficient of friction vs. slip angle.
A Volvo on Toyo RA1s will kill an Evo on snow tires when it comes to cornering. At least until it rains or snows.

It's been awhile since I was on here.. I joined the forums about 4 years ago? But I never really posted anything, I was just a lurker back then.
Jbrennen is correct, we go back about 2 to 3 years ago autoxing together in the DC region, but we havent stopped practicing and driving.. we had our fair shares of tossing the cars around and made a lot of progress as better drivers along the way.. it's a lot of fun once you understand the principle of tire grip and car balance.. then as a driver, you know how much to dial in for the steering, the brakes, and throttle to make the turn using your eyes as your primary key to tell you when, how, where, and what to do to negotiate the turn. Takes practice.
How much did you get your MR for and where in SF?

I have tried to go like 40 mph, stepped on the brake, downshifted to 2nd gear, and floor the gas. Am I doing it right? The dealer was showing me on the standard IX and not the MR I bought. Could that be one of the reason why he can and I could not? Can anyone give me a good technique to make sharp turns at the highest speed without getting killed? Also, how fast were you able to do that with your EVO 8 or 9 ? Thanks!
