Regaining Control
The benifit of AWD and finding traction is that with all wheels putting power down, you have a better chance of one of them having the weight on it required to get grip.
Once you break that traction - lose control - it is still about getting weight back on the wheels that are sliding to recover.
It's sorta like that once-every-three-years snow we get down here in South Carolina and the soccer moms in the four wheel drive Exploders drive them off the road and say "But it's four wheel drive, it's not supposed to crash in the snow.
All wheel drive helps you gain speed in low traction situations. (dirt, snow, wet, at the edge of a slip angle) It can help you recover by using the method above but that's not foolproof, knowing how to ballance the car is still paramount.
