when i had a stock evo with no 2 step i took it to the track. i was free reving up n down between 5 and 5500 rpm. slipped the clutch out (not dumping it) and it was good enough to get me a 1.68 60ft. not bad for bone stock
If you look it very care fully the car rear sits back and stays there, that is when i applyed the E-brake and i am holding back the car with it. Prevent more rolling forward.
aprox around 9 sec in this video you will see what i am talking about
Coming from a awd dsm to an evo its still the same idea and technique. Slip and grip. Launch rpm is at the digression of the driver. Some people launch at 4500 some at 6000. I personally turned my 2-step up to 5850, same as my dsm. Both use 2600 pp, evo has a street disc, dsm 6-puck. Launching an awd car takes alot of practice. You cant drop the clutch like a fwd, takes lots of power to break all fours loose and even then thats a huge shock on the drivetrain initially. Slipping of the clutch is necessary. Not enough slip, car will bog. Too much slip, you'll burn the clutch. In the end, no one can tell you how to launch your car. Different turbo, transmission, clutch, even engine set-ups will respond differently. Experiment with different rpm's, dont dump the clutch, dont roast the clutch and you'll be ok.
I have an evo x and was wondering something about the launch control. Maybe this is a newb question. Are the turbos supposed to spool at all when you use the 2-step? Whenever I hear subis use a launch control or even rev I hear their turbo spooling and then the bov when they let off the throttle.
This forum makes me very happy. I just bought my evo x last week and have had many questions. All which have been answered from everyone on here. The launch was a big question. Always seemed like my car bogged down as soon as I released the clutch. Thanks for everyones answers, it's helped a lot.
One of the most overlooked things about launching this car is you have to be confident in what you are doing. If you think in the back of your head for a split second you are going to bog it or burn the **** out of the clutch, you most likely will. Its very unforgiving, but when you get it down there is nothing more rewarding than feeling your soul in the back seat!
(Just to be clear, I was "semi-dumping" the clutch only after it started grabbing, to avoid drivetrain shock.
