Slowing down and Stopping ur Evo?

Hey guys, when u guys are goin in excess of 80mph, and u want to stop at a red traffic light, how do u guys do that?
Do you brake hard with the clutch engaged?
Do you downshift and brake hard?

And how do you guys downshift i think i do it wrong, what i do is from 4th i down shift to 3rd release half the clutch, to let the car kind grab, and then i immediately engage the clutch and give brakes, but i feel unsafe, how do u guys slow this machine down quickly, i dont like to drive fast on the streets, but if i ever come up against a STi, i wuda give the guy a blow-out, jk

What do u guys think?

PS My evo is JDM with upgraded brake lines

Downshift, let out clutch fairly quickly, and brake hard to where you feel the ABS kick in a bit. Oh, and don't drive 80 down steets with stoplights

You will feel the ABS (anti-lock breaking system) through the brake pedal. It is a pulsing feeling that you can't confuse with anything else. I tend to start braking first and then down shift once I'm at a safe RPM to do so.

Brakes are for stopping. You downshift while braking so that if you suddenly have to accelerate, you'll be in the proper gear.

When ur doin 80 and coming to a stoplight just drop it into a lower gear at a safe RPM and let the clutch out slowly while braking more gradually.

Best is to brake with some gear engaged, not too high rpm because the engine is more designed for compression (accelaration) rather than engine-breaking (using it to stop).. But then again, as it's being said up, do have some safe rpm running in order to keep the brake system servo well vaccumed.. i guess so!

and put all of the energy into your brakes? should have your car in gear as it will help the car slow as the rpms drop...

well depending what gear you are in at 80mph i doubt it would be useful to keep it in gear while you are braking for a red light. no need to down shift as you do not need to set up to accelerate. and its not like this car weighs so much that you need extra help in stopping with front brakes like an evo has.

Brakes are cheap and eazy to replace. clutches are not. No need to drive it like your on a race track. Push the dang clutch pedal in and step on the brake lol!
