shi*tty launching help?
i have a 03 evo went to the track yesterday and my best time was 14.2 i know guys thats horrible not stock i have ... stage 2 clutch, lightend flywheel , 255 fuel pump, tbe, down pipe, 02 housing ,10.5 hot side of turbo, manifold, intake , upper and lower intercooler piping , boost controller 21 psi, flashed and tuned AND AI RAN A 14.2 i was expecting high or mid 12's .... my launches were around 4 4 1/2k rpm's and was still bogging off the line and missing 4th ... any recomendations on lauching when i first got the car the barrings went bad in the tranny and when they fixed it they said first and 2nd were straight cut gears?
Why do you say "and still bogging off the line"? 4-4.5k is way too low. You can't launch from there anyway, so of course you're bogging off the line. You said it as if those were HIGH launching rpms. This isn't a 3rd gen eclipse 2wd POS. You need to be at 6k rpm and ripping out of the hole. Also, saying 14.2 doesn't tell us anything except that you can't drive. What matters is your trap speed - that determines how fast you CAN go. Yes, those mods should be good for low 12s.
As for launching, this has been discussed a few million times with explanations and videos. I personally have posted my advice many times. Please look around in the drag forum...

Set your 2 step at 5.4k, go again come to the line, just before green light 2 step it,and realse the clutch a little bit where gap is, k, do not dump it just slide, and thats it. Takes some practice. You can even 2 step it when green light turns on, just for practice
Good luck.
Good luck.

I havent had the chance to run my car at the track but I'll share what I know.
Reading here many said to properly launch with the stock clutch you have to do a quick slip. Well just saying that is not good enough because it doesnt explain very much about properly performing this "quick slip". And then they refer you to search for old discussed topics with unavailable video clips, or clips that dont really help very much.
Sharing my experience:
1.)
I tried quick slipping the clutch which results in burning the clutch pretty bad. Pretty much it would heat up and I noticed it would continue to slip. So after 2 tries of that I stopped testing that method. (maybe it was not quick enough of a slip)
2.)
Next I was reading about our stock clutch line having a restricter pill, that slows down the engagement. There was talk that this pill basically slips the clutch for you and if you slip it as well then it would result in a too slow of an engagment. Basically you'll be burning your clutch, and what they recomend for the stock system is to just lift your leg up like you stepped on a pile of **** and lifted your leg up. So I tried that and the result was spinning the wheels slightly and rpms falling to the 2k area and a slight bog. The rpms would be too low for a good smooth and fast launch. It was pretty much like dumping the clutch and only resulted in a quick jump but then a bog.
3.)
Now accidently I stumbled into the method I am using now. Maybe its what people were trying to explain here, or I didnt search hard enough but this is what I found that works for me and produces sometimes very minimal to mostly no clutch smell. (if that means anything)
If I had to name it anything then it would be a "2 step dump" or "2 step release". Basically you as always try to release all the drive train slack and raise the clutch to the point just before gripping. Then slowly raise the rpms to the 5k rev limit and fully press acceleration pedal to bounce off the stock launching rev limit.
To launch the car you would lift your foot pretty quick to 3/4 distance, or right before complete engagement. Then you stop at that point and then lift your foot off the rest of the way. Its a quick process and everything should happen in a smooth "lift pause lift" motion. During the first lift, the car accelerates really hard as the rpms fall to high 3k to low 4k range, then you completely let off for full grip as the rpms and speed rise.
Doing this I felt a hard, constant and smooth push in the seat g forces compared to the previous methods mentioned. Remember this happens fast and is not a long slip. Its a crappy video but its the best I could do at this time as my friend attempted to hold the digi cam steady during the launch.

Guys let me know what you think of my technique and from what results you saw in the video clip.
