I use these shoes from Sparco

For $69.00 you can't go wrong. They feel very close to a full on Sparco Driving shoe but are super cheap cause they do not need to meet SFI or FIA standards.

For some odd reason, I find my Converse are better for driving than my Pilotis.

As a rule of thumb, if they are comfortable for more than a little bit of walking around, they aren't real driving shoes (at least, in my experience). I have a pair of Vans and a pair of Diesels. The flat bottom of the Vans is great (they're what I used for a long time racing), and the Diesels are those looks-like-a-racing-shoe shoe, so they work well as well. I, for one, would never buy full-on racing shoes. My dad had to buy full ankle racing shoes for Skip Barber, and I got his old ones. They're Oakley racing shoes (fire protection and everything). I have to bring other shoes to the track when I wear them because they're such a PITA to wear around walking places, especially for hours at the track. But, they are amazingly wonderful for driving. But, back on the flip side, the Diesels and the Vans work plenty fine, if I want good pedal feel, the Diesels are great with a little bit more effort to heel-toe. And the Vans are the opposite, really easy to heel-toe (probably because I wear them the most, and heel-toe all around town, so lots of practice) but not quite as much pedal feel. Both shoes are fine for me to wear around for 12 hours straight walking around an amusement park and then going to bars etc after.

That's my 2 cents. In short: I'd spend the money on some nice everyday shoes that also feel decent in the car. Buy a driving shoe, not racing shoe

^ I have those too, except mine have a Ferarri logo on them and the sole is slightly different.

A pair that's black on one side, white on the other, and on the black parts (the insides of the shoes) there's a dragon on one shoe and some chinese lettering on the other.

I picked up both pair for $55 (buy one get one free at the Puma Outlet).
