You should confine all of these questions to one thread. The 2 step level is driver dependent, really just a personal preference. Mine is set to 4500, but I never launch the car. 5812 is a really random number, why not 5800? Seems a little high, but if you have the drivetrain to back up that beating, why not..

Its also situation dependent. If your doing 1/4 mile launch, you might want it higher for more power. For an auto-x situation you might want it lower, so that the launch is easier to manage.

the best advice is just to test it. There are alot of variables that could affect the optimal launch rpm. For instance, you cars specific power/torque curve, tires, road conditions, clutch type, car weight ...

+1, when i used to drag race i would have to adjust it according to the track prep. But i dont that stuff anymore. I think im gonna lower mine to 4500 tho like the guy above said he uses for autox

A related question - what's harder on the car (transmission)? More torque or more horsepower? For example, setting it at 4500 rpm's will yield higher torque but less hp for more cars. 6000 rpm would yield more hp but less torque typically. If I want to be "somewhat" nice to my car, what should I set it at? I was thinking of lowering it from the stock 5500 rpm's, but I'm actually worried that more torque would be worse for the transmission/transfer case/etc.

Its def torque that is harder on your car than the hp but what were you thinking of setting it at?

I'm open to suggestions Whatever would be easiest on the car for a decent autocross launch.
