brights

i assume most members here drive cars. i propose that we as car drivers stick up for ourselves and use our brights at night. except when on crowded roads or when facing cars, motorcycles, emergency vehicles or some other exceptional vehicles. but when faced with semi's, buses, full size trucks, or suv's we should continue to use our brights. we should not give these vehicles any sympathy. the drivers of these vehicles sometimes choose to drive them to provide more protection and be immune to other cars. thats true, they are less effected by our brights, so that means we don't have to turn them off. if you drive a truck your opinion is biased therefore your opinion doesn't matter. so please don't respond and spend the time you save getting better brakes for your potentially child butchering vehicle.

only time i'll keep my brights on is if i flash someone with brights on, and they don't turn em off...other then that it's just common courtesy to turn em off..

common courtesy for car drivers but don't give the truck drivers an inch because they don't need it and they aren't giving us any breaks. trucks are the enemy. stay strong. don't give in. we can beat them.

Personally (and this may just be my opinion alone) I am not as concerned with "giving in" or losing this "battle". The fact remains that when bright lights are aimed directly at another driver's eyes, that person might not be able to see. So I don't see how blinding that 5,000 lb SUV facing directly towards you is going to prove anything, other than how you can risk blinding an already ignorant and stupid driver and get yourself killed in the process.

I agree that trucks and other drivers with bright lights should use common courtesy in having them aligned properly (especially with trucks on lift kits and stuff like that), but whenever I feel tempted to blind the jerk with my high wattage brights, I think about the trouble I am having in seeing him (or her) and realize doing the same back could result in a head-on collision. There no winners in that case.

My only solution is to have cops write more fix-it tickets for people with misaligned headlights, and moving violations for people using brights on crowded streets (especially with street lamps). Also, is there any vehicle code regarding brightness or candle power for headlamps? That might be a good idea, too, as there are cars (as well as trucks) using way too high of a wattage in their low beams than they ever need. That's my .02 fee free to disagree.

I agree with you. I have the clearer lights from autozone (not hid, but the "white" lights) and I have people flashing me. I.E.: SUV, pickups, etc. I just flash my brights basically saying "hey IDIOT, THEY'RE NOT ON!!"

While we're on the subject of flashing lights: what do the different flashes mean? I know that if they single tap their brights, they want you to turn your brights off. But is it two taps for cop or single long one? Anyone know of any other reasons to use your brights?

Oh yeah, you know we have so many gangs in Dallas it's just unbearable. This is the place the Eastcoast and West Coast gangs collide! It's madness on the streets pass dark.

Alright, I don't get it...

I have logged almost 200k miles, most of them on US freeways. I have covered 39 out of the 48 mainland states. So I think it's fair to say that I've pretty much seen it all? Yet, I don't find headlights on semi's, buses, trucks, or SUV's to be terribly bright or annoying. If properly aligned, an oncoming truck or SUV should not be blinding other drivers.

IMO, these three types of cars do much worse than trucks and SUV's:

1/. cars equipped with blue-ish headlights
2/. cars with mis-aligned headlights
3/. cars driven by ******* drivers who refuse to turn off their high beams.
