Just about everything on the road is regulated to 55 watt lighting systems, so what difference would it make if it was an oncoming car or an oncoming truck? Sure the truck's headlight might be 10 inches higher than a car's headlight, but in the above situation, it doesn't really make a difference.

I am assuming that we're talking about freeway driving because you really don't see a whole lot of people using their high beams in the city.

Try I-405
Yes I have to agree that not only trucks and SUVs are annoying, normal passenger cars with their brights on can also be very irritating, but the fact is that 8 out 9 times I was blinded by SUV's/trucks.

When there isn't much traffic on the fwy it's not too bad, 'cuz you can always let the SUV go pass you, but imagine when the roads are packed and there's this RAV4/Tundra/Durango/F-150 right behind you with his **** brights on all the time.
The reflections in the driver's side mirror and the rear-view mirror...PLUS the still traffic...How frustrating is that?!

ok i want to ask you guys a question but before that i want to let you guys know why i'm asking it.

ok, i hate it while i'm driving somewhere and an ******* truck/van/suv (basically anyone larger than i am) driver gets right behind my *** and their lights is right in my eyes. sometimes i feel that they're highbeaming me on purpose to move my ***. in most cases, i can't move because 1) there's a slower car in front of me and 2) i'm obeying the speed limits and if you want, change your dam lane. i know some of you experience this when all you see is the guy/girl's lights and that's all.

so my question would be: is it against the law to put a high beam light at the back of my car, let say...against the rear window on the inside, maybe conceal it a bit? my thing would be, if someone comes up my ***, i would hit a switch and high beam their asses back..back them off a bit. i've seen one of lights before but they were on those off-road vehicle..you know, the kind that goes to Africa in a safari. this would also be used if some ******* is harrassing me and i don't feel like racing.

I'm not sure if it's legal to have such a light, although I doubt there are laws against it. There are probably laws against using it on public roads, but if you're only going to use it in such an occasion, a cop probably won't see you doing so (and if a cop asks about the light when it's not in use, say you live on a dark street and need it to see when backing out of your driveway or something)

Illegal? Definitely. And more than that both stupid and potentially criminally irresponsible. When you beam someone and they go temporarily night blind and crash out that's on your head. If it kills them then it's at least manslaughter and should be murder since it was a willful irresponsible act that caused it.

Going back to your original point, "basically anything bigger than me", perhaps some therapy to deal with the size inadequacy stigma would be better than a light.

I think it's illegal here in USA, but my friend's uncle does that on his Legend in Mexico...he has about 4 rear brights...

How about this, chuck a strobe light inside your rear window. That would have basically have the same effect on someone behind you at night, and is equally as stupid.

Why not just slow down enough to get them to pass you? Problem solved... I always do that to tailgaters and the likes.
