Tuning with Dyno Flash - case study #2 - ctevo

In my continuing effort to dispell misconceptions and to explore our methods of tuning I am presenting today's custom tuned Dyno Flash

Ctevo visited us for the first time today with no other tuning products on his car

Ctevo's mods were

Greddy Ti cat back
Apexi DP
HKS RS Intake
Walbro fuel pump
Greddy Pro Fec B II
Type S BOV - spring mod

Here is his base line - boost erratic

Note the lean a/f reading on the HKS RS KIt without any tuning - stock ecu settings

We decided to try and adjust the boost controller and wastegate to even out the erratic boost - with not good results - boost jumping all about - not good

The decision was made to step up to the much better working and less expensive Hallman Pro boost controller. I am NOT a big fan of the Greddy Pro Fed B II - it works OK on some cars and really bad on some others - in this case the problems may have been related to some bad mechanical work from the dealership - rather than waste time to trouble shoot the problem and get it working we decided to just go for the better boost controller on the next pull

Here is the first pull with the base Dyno Flash installed - it ran way too lean and caused knock - time to make the mixture richer

We took out some fuel and adjusted the timing to avoid knock activity

Things are starting to look better - the curve is a little rough and uneven

We are getting closer - its starting to take shape and pick up power as we are tailoring the fuel and timing curves

Now we are left with one small spot slightly rich - almost done

Here is the final result - note the bov was leaking slightly and needed further adjustment - hence the slight bounce upon spool up

This is a great result considering that he still has his stock cat and it was on 93 octane pump gas at 21 psi

With a high flow cat or test pipe additional gains would be in order

As usual - a real pleasure to drive on the road - very smooth and fast

Yes - it took us a long time to do it - but the results are worth it - and as always the customer pays a flat fee with all dyno time and tuning included no matter how long it takes to get a perfect tune.

Here is the final sheet with the a/f included - flat line a/f makes for a smooth machine

Very impressive. What boost level did you have him run?

Al,
The more I see of your work, the more impressed I am. Keep up the good work
My question is, how would the above scenario work out with a mail in flash, instead of a custom tune?
Thanks!

Thanxs Al! just got home from Pruven and the tune is working perfect. A special thanks for helping me out witht he new boost controller and taking the time to make sure everything was tuned just right. All the talk about u having poor customer service has been completly dispelled with me. making over 300 hp with just some bolt ons at 20psi was more than I coulda asked for. Again thanks for the great tune, I recomend his product to anyone who wants their Evo tuned I will be back once I get a test pipe and cams!

once again very happy with both the tune and the level of service!
