HP loss with HF Cat

DynoFlash,

How much average do you see HP loss with a HF cat over a testpipe, considering a 3" exhaust from the turbo back?

Anyone have any dyno's? Im debating putting on my 3" HF cat (Magnaflow) to quiet down my car, but I don't want it to feel slow.

BTW, I searched, but couldn't find anything concrete except that you said with the 3" UR HF cat, you didn't lose even 1 hp here:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=55371

the UR HF cat uses the magnaflow converter, right? Why did you say you gained low end?

Thanks for the input.

I honestly can't really feel a difference between my test pipe and Ultimate-Racing High flow. Very Very slight difference. Nothing you would really notice on the Butt Dyno

You would probably loose about 10 hp max. That is the stock cat. I saw a dyno comparison and it was 10 hp between stock cat and test pipe. With a high flow maybe only 5 who knows? Not that much hp would be lost. I will get one if I ever need to smog test.

UR high flow cat is almost like cat delete pipe, I heard they smell as bad as a test pipe. If you are considering a HF cat, I would go with APS HF cat or Magnaflow or Works (which actually has resinator in it)

lots of dyno tests on this...search the evo/turbo section. Documented loss's from a high flow to a test pipe err i mean vice versa is about 12-15whp 12-20lbt tq......its a huge difference!

I dont think that is in all cases, because I saw a dyno comparison with the stock cat to no cat and it was only like 9 hp.

If you don't adjust the boost controller for the cat then there is going to be more difference than if you compare at a constant level of boost.

One thing to keep in mind is that a cat can hurt spool-up even if the max HP isn't too different.

My turbo seems to hit quicker and harder with a HF cat...

If you asked me, i'd say the main difference is OVERALL horsepower, not peak, I think peak ends up pretty close, but the flow is more even with cat-delete, and there seems to be a lot less turbo-lag as well, other than that....it feels the same once it hits hard
