P0171 code

Al or anyone,
Since I have added HKS 272's, 680cc inj, 255 pump + dynoflash,
I have been getting this Lean Condition code when I idle for a few minutes or if I idle with a 1/4 tank or less of fuel. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have any insight to what is happening.
Thanks

Yeah ... me too after installing the HKS 264 - 272 combo, under the same condition that you just described.

Any help would be must appreciated.

That code just means the 02 sensor is seeing a wrong air/fuel mixture. So either the computer is not compensating for the larger injectors which would make a rich mix or it is getting extra air in that is not being recognized or it is just not tuned. If you have any vacuum leaks, it will set this code because the mass air sensor will not see that air coming in so it wont add the extra fuel for it. There are a lot of situations that can make that code come up but all it really means is the air/fuel mix is not correct.

After doing some search and some reading I came with these conclussions :

P0171: System too Lean

could be because of :

1. changing the intake for one more aggressive.
2. HKS bigger cams.
3. REFLASH

I'm also getting code P0300 (random misfire) after the reflash too.

I just want Al to post some inside about this issue.

Thans,

Miguel

p0171 & p0300

Yeah, once I installed the 272's and did the mail in flash, I got the P0171 code regularly at idle. Then I installed an AMS fuel rail w/o adjusting anything else. Same tune.
And now I get the P0300, random misfire, too on idle.
I think I am just too rich on idle. Any insight from a tuner would be great.
Thanks

Same thing with my car. Odd thing is that it was not doing this for the 1st custom flash I had. Not sure if the idle flash is the culprit.

If you are getting this code when idling it seems that I will have to rescale your fuel table more to match your larger injectors

Just send the ecu in and I will take care of it

Cool! Please let me know what to do and how quick is the turn around time? Cost?

Al, anyway you can flash my tune back to the 1st custom dynoflash? I like to see if there's a difference between my first and second custom flash. The car just feels and pulls much stronger on the 1st flash vs the second flash. Anyway you can tell the difference between the two?

Thanks.

You normally get the lean code at idle with bigger injectors because they react slower. The ecu has to compensate by adding fuel. When it exceeds a certain threshold it throws the code. I doesn't always mean you are running lean.

But I don't have bigger injectors, I still have the factory OEM injectors and still have the P0171 (lean condition) code...

hey Al, so do u have any more input to this situation? is there a fix through the mail for it or do u need a custom tune to get rid of this code?
