Al, 3040 Turbo guidance

Al, Ive been tossing up several different turbos and cannot decide. The GT35 is the last stop if I cannot make the power Im looking for. First I was set on the 3076/3037 turbo.....then I was thinking of a GT35R to make big power, but Im definitely concerned with spool. Then I realized the 3040 is out the and made by ATP Turbo, so its not a 4 grand HKS unit....and I know you used one of these for quite a while. Im curious, the 3071 has very quick spool, the 3076 or 3037 a little slower and the GT35 is a big turbo, where does the 3040 fall in here and what should I expect?

Al, that may be of particular interest. But what Im really trying to do is decide if its right for me.

The GT35R seems to be the turbo of choice....but being a person of non convention, I began looking at other options. The GT3240 is too expensive and exclusive to HKS. ATP has a turbo, and now you have one for a grand. Im looking to bolt it up to a full race manifold and go from there, having a DP and oil lines fabbed up in due time.

I really, really need your experiences and input regarding power output, spool times and a comparison to the GT35R before I make a serious decision.

Ive seen some impressive power results, I really would like to know if the turbo is suitable for street driven duty on a 2.0L motor eventually going to be used in a Crower 2.2 stroker setup. Custom is the word, Al, custom!

The HKS GT3040 uses a T25 flange which won't work w/ the T3 flange on the Full Race manifold. Full Race may be able to add the T25 if you have to have it. Also, the HKS turbo uses a different (smaller wheel and specs) compressor side then a typical GT3040 that can be bought from a turbo shop.

The only thing that I can tell you for sure is the spool up and power is going to be in between the GT3076 and a GT35R. ATP's claim of 600hp seems very optimistic to me. If it was me I would go w/ the GT35R over the GT3040. It seems to me that lag seems to be an issue to you. You should probably be looking at a GT3076.

is the GT35R good for running on a 2.0L and used for a track car 91 octane(road course) or should i go with the 3071 or 3076? i have the same problem deciding. i really want teh 3071 but on a fairly stock car running 91 i wont get 400 and thats my goal and i want to keep close to stock spool. i thought the gt35r was a straight away turbo not good for track. is that true? thanks in advance
