Exhaust or not?

I've got a stock '05 evo. I have a HKS Racing Suction on order. I'm going to get a different BOV, not sure which one yet, probably a JDM or forge. I'd like to get flashed with just these mods for the time being. Does it make sense to do this without changing the exhaust or do I really need to do the exhaust as well to have the intake function properly after the flash?

Add a boost controller and fuel pump as well to your list in addition to exhaust and intake..

HKS Intake + Boost controller + Exhaust + Fuel Pump (you can get it instead of the bov $) and with Dynoflash.. you should see very nice increase...

Inquiring more specifically if having the HKS installed and dynoflashed without exhaust would be beneficial?

Yeah supposedly just the intake made 11whp after a flash. And you'll get at least 20whp from a flash and 10-20whp from a MBC, so you could do that. I personally am waiting until I'm finished with my first "stage" to get tuned. That way I know for sure I'm tuned exactly for my mods. HKS RS intake, JDM MR DV, HKS 30th anniversary catback, HKS downpipe, UR 3" test pipe, Hallman MBC, fuel pump pending install. Same with IC pipe kit. I'd wait if I were you. Than you can see a huge gain.

I'd love to wait until I'm done with it all, but I think exhaust is gonna have to wait until next year's budget. I'm also worried about putting the HKS on without a tune and leaning out the engine too much.

Really I don't think it leans you out that bad... I haven't seen a change in my EGT's since the HKS RS. Plus up top we run so rich from the factory that leaning it out can only help. Or you could just buy a SAFCII for now and sell it when you get a custom tune.

It would be beneficial either way, but you would tell a bigger difference with the exhaust. After my turbo back the car was noticeably different... then dynoflash on top of that.

Of course it make sense to flash it without the exhuast if you like whp and tq gains and a smoother ride!

With the V3 boost controlling flash your car will pick up significant gains

if you do the exhuast - I would suggest a walbro fuel pump and MBC to gop along with the exhuast - good for 300 plus whp
