Case study # 98 - lean tuning vs. Dyno Flash tuning
Car had
2005
272 cams HKS
ARC fmic
Greddy Ti cat back UR high flow cat
Blitz SBCid
O2 housing
walbro fuel fuel pump
HKS RS intake
Buschur upper fmic and mini batter kit
RMR lower fmic pipe kit
Here is the previous ultra lean timing pulling tune from another flash tuner
vs. my tune with boost adjustment and much richer and more steady timing
Some days this business can be a nightmare of answering phone messages and other tedious stuff I hate - and other days this business is the most fun you can have in this world
I love tuning cars and working on the dyno

BTW I find it amazing that you can ADD more fuel and get more power, just goes against the Norm. Every time I go WOT I get knock and horrible Timing pull, this afet 4 dyno tunes BTW
. Time for a new tuner

However - the in the case of stock ecu flashing, when you can hold the ignition timing by keeping the ecu's happy knock ears from hearing knock activity you make more power.
The xtra fuel is mostly a anti knock aide which helps maintain your ignition timing
In the case of a true stand alone ecu - you would make more actual power running leaner
The inner workings of the stock ecu take lots of careful testing and watching to unravel
The end result is a lower egt, less knock and more power along with a smoother feel
I would trade a slight loss in fuel ecomony for rock solid reliability anyday
