Al Your Opinions On High Flow Cats?
Al Your Opinions On High Flow Cats?
Hey Al,
I want to get a high flow cat (3"). No test pipe for me.
Which do you like of these three? I want flanges on both ends.
Ultimate Racing
Helix
Works (the one that they take OE cat and put bigger tubing on it)
Which gives best numbers?
Thanks man.

Not to speak for Al, but I asked this same question last year. I asked the different between a HF cat and a Test Pipe. Al said the hp differences were very negligible; so pick whatever you want.
Given the Evo's wine (yes I'm biased now with the boxer engine), the smell, and the legality, I went with the HF cat from Ultimate Racing back when I made the choice based partly on Al's comments.

i actually got dyno'd with and without a HF cat and saw a 15hp diff. pretty much same weather conditions and same dyno
285 HF cat
300 test pipe
anybody who wants to come argue this can go ahead, but my *** felt a diff. with the testpipe, the car opened up much smoother and stronger.

The Random Technology Cat comes in 2.5" or 3" bolt in replacement and runs about $275. I will let you know about the quality after I bolt it up and get the car tuned. Ordered mine from Ultra Rev 718-445-2531. Ray is real nice.
The 3" Random Tech cat is VERY good. I have done back to back runs with the Test pipe and with the Random Tech cat. I used the pocketlogger to look at MAF rate. There was no difference at all in the Butt Dyno or that I could see on the pocketlogger. I dont think any TRUE high flow cat will come close to the Random Technology without costing much more than $300.
Random technology cats use an awesome spiral matrix core. much better flow than any other cat i have seen.
i went with Buschur because it looks stock and passes most visual checks., the random tech cat is a maller bullet design that you can most definately tell is not stock.
