Case study # 124 - back to reality with a evo 8
After the mega high of yesterday's massive 375 whp Evo IX - today was a return to reality with a 2004 Evo 8 and a
K & N Typhoon Intake
3" exhuast
Forge UNOS
Walbro fuel pump
21 psi of boost
93 pump gas
It made decent power compared to the IX it was nothing
BUT - at least it aint a slowbaru !

See I would beg to differ with Al on this one. This is a perfect example of a strong 8 that with cams, 10.5 hotside, and 100 octane/more boost would have came close to what Al made on that 9. Al do you agree?

The before sheet was pathetic
I have figured out some decent tuning for the Typhoon which works well.
Still - it is not one of my top intake choices

They are both great cars - just one has a more advanced turbo and can hold more power iwth high boost
NOTE - with pump gas boost levels 20 - 21 psi the difference is NOT AS HIGH between the two
The IX starts to have a bigger advantage with higher boost
I would suggest that a good POSSIBLE explanation may be REDUCED HEAT in the intake charge due to greater comprssor efficency in the higher pressure ratio areas
