Case study #127 - Intersting results with MR and no cams with alcohol

I wanted to post this case study here in the engine power train forums

This is the first bona fide celebrity customer I have had at Dyno Flash - (not dropping any names)

The car was a unique set up on it

It is a 2005 MR with no cams
3" Exhuast Perrin
Walbro fuel pump
Injen intake and upper fmic pipe
Forge re-circ bov
Forge UNOS

Smc / Buschur alcohol kit

Custom Dyno Flash

This car is running NGK BR7ES spark plugs gapped to .25

93 Octane pump gas - 25 psi peak boost

Here is the reason that I find the result interesting, the power delivery with the higher boost and alcohol is very good, I did not think it would have been this much power.

I have been always suggesting cams first and then the alcohol - the results in this post may suggest doing the alcohol in lieu of cams is a good path also

wow, hp seems to drop off much sooner than w/o cams (obviously), but the peak numbers are pretty good.

A celebrity? Why can't you tell us who it is?

...and why the hell aren't they building the cRap out of the car with a biG HonKin turbo?

Great numbers!! That must be one of those Evos that make more power than average.

I'm the celebrity guys, so you can all stop wondering. Ok, no, just kidding, but I did want to comment that this is probably just a little bit more power than I'm making when on race gas. Since I tune myself on race gas with the S-AFC to an estimated 340whp (113.7mph trap), I would bet that Al could custom tune me with his flash to right near the same figures. I'm not sure about the torque getting as high as 360, but I am pretty sure Al could tune my MR to 345/345 on race gas (or alky if I had it). I don't have the intake and UICP, but the rest is the same, so I'm not surprised by this result. With cams, that thing will make right around 380/390 or 380/400 probably.

Actually, I will soon have both the Forge Unos and Forge RS BOV to see how well they do in comparison to my Hallman Pro and MR DV, so that will be interesting as well.

Come on, Al! We'd like to know who the "celeb" is that drives an EVO! Those are good numbers though.

Not to hijack, but...

I've thought about doing this same thing. I'm tired of the surge I'm getting with the MR valve. What are your desired results with the change?
