Walbro Fuel Pump on IX

Is this necessary? Getting base flash done in April and I read on the Dynoflash site that the Walbro alters AFRs so it's a good idea to get it on before any tweaking is done.vWhat I'm wondering is is the IX's fuel pump is good enough for my mods: RnR intake, RnR 3" TBE with ported, polished, and coated exhaust manifold and coated o2 and downpipe, and hks iv ebc.

+1, i will have practically identical mods when i go for my ix tune (but ill have an mbc, and stock mani)

ive been told by several people that the stock ix pump is 233lph (dont quote me) and very much up to the task to handle a flash and not needed on the ix's...

but is it a cheap and good insurance policy?

You're right, the stock IX fuel pump is upgraded over the VIII, but you should get a Walboro anyway. Walboro flows 255lph, which is still better than the IX pump.

Read this whole thread (at least the first half):

It's a cheap upgrade that will save your car, and there have been some IX's that have run lean with custom tunes, mine was one of them. You can max out an IX fuel pump with an aggressive tune.

heres a quote that i think answers our question from that thread...

The IX pump is slightly stronger than the 8 one but the walbro is the best bet as with the IX the pump runs out of steam when the car starts making power as the IX's do !

I bought one for the IX as my 8 had problems. I am having no issues with my IX and stock pump. The Walbro is on the shelf for big mods later. Stages 1 and 2 not necessary

Good info to know. I guess if I run into a pump somewhere, I'll pick it up. It seems that if you are on a Stage 1 or 2 setup and are doing a base flash then an upgraded fuel pump on the IX is not necessary. But if you are getting a full custom road tune where your boost will be upped more than likely, I think it's a good idea to get a walbro. This is my conclusion.

Unless in the last 2 weeks he's changed his mind that is not correct. On an 8 yes, but not on a 9. Mine is tuned without a Walbro pump and I have one sitting right here. He said it's not necesarry and tuned it just fine with out it. The car runs consistent and perfect.

My IX was custom tuned and my car runs perfect on stock fuel pump.

it's $100 and 30 minutes just get the pump. Al has said the IX shouldnt need it but there have been a few cases where the pump on a IX wasn't getting the job done, would hate to be one of exceptions when it comes to tune time. I did mine before my tune.

Thanks for all the valuable info guys. I will still say that with a base flash it really isn't necessary. I've read that the ix's stock fuel pump flows around 235lph which isn't too much slower than the walbro and should be good enough for the basic bolt-ons.

Bump for more info and testimonies. Would doing a walbro yield more horsepower. I take it that it lowers AFR's since it pushes more fuel causing a more rich condition which equals to more fuel you can tune with. I forgot to mention that I'm getting just a base flash so my tune won't be aggressive by any means.
