black smoke under boost

Al,

I have noticed that I am getting alot of black soot on the back of my car lately. I had my hubby follow me and he said whenever I got on it, it would blow black smoke and smelled rich. I also got a P0420 code a week or so ago, but just figured that it was due to the hi-flo cat. Not sure if that is related? I haven't touched the boost or anything since being tuned in Febuary. I was thinking that maybe it was the warmer weather causing it to run less boost and resulting in a richer condition? Any ideas? I never noticed the soot problem until a week or so ago (about the same time I got the code and weather warmed up).

Thanks Al,

Girlie

This type of condition is normal for turbo charged vehicles which run high boost on pump gas

The a/f on your car is 11/0 - depending on the brand and type of fuel black soot is a normal condition

Ok, thanks Al. Just never noticed it until now. Maybe all the salt/cinders covered it up

Your not the only one. I had the same problem basically and I'm still with the stock exhaust. I kept on throwing P0420 for some reason and now it doesn't come back even though I haven't altered anything or touched anything. Probably just did it for some time to **** me off lol.

Girly,

Don't worry, it is not that abnormal to have some black smoke, worry when the smoke is bluish(turbo) or white(burning oil).

The black smoke is part of the game
