HKS 264/264 supporting mods

I place this question here since I've decided that any tunning on my recently purchased EVO VIII would have to be done by Al. His historical data is just very supporting.

My goal is to improve the low end torque. With that said I want to know about the supporing mods to properly run the HKS 264 combo. In addition, any additional mods to improve low end that will run properly with the cams would be greatly appreciated.

My current mods only include a Perrin TBE w/high flow cat. Stock intake for now until otherwise recommended. Debating between Works and K&N, or HKS RS & Injen w/ IC pipe. As you can see two totally different types. I like the reviews on the HKS power gain and the CARB cert of the Injen (moving to Cali). Drop ins just give me a safe feeling.

I was about to ship my ECU for my initial tune but I'm thinking about holding back until I get cammed. Well I guess is only $100 extra there after.

Great choice of cams, I have them and I love the almost lack of turbo lag. These cams are the best traffic friendly turbolag free cams you are going to find.

These cams matched with a decent air filter and an unrestricted Turbo back would give you great spool up.

You are sacrificing a hair on top end but on the world of CAMS you must make a decision(top end, better spool up/midrange, etc)

These cams made my Evo 8 MR drop 4 tenth on the 1/4 mile, I went from low 13's to high 12's back in the day.

As far is the air filter, I have K&n but I highly recommend Buschur Cone, it is cheap and flow very well. I also heard great things about the HKS however they don't filter much dirt (too pourous).

Just wait until you get the cams installed then send the ECU to Dynoflash for a flash.

Good luck!

Carlos

I didnt feel any loss in low end what so ever with my 272s and my spool is instantaneous. On a side note, I felt great a nice gain everywhere from the Ebay 02.

Cams don't require supporting mods. You just want to have all the basic stg1 stuff, which includes:

- MBC
- DV (BOV)
- TBE
- Fuel pump
- Tune

That's all you need, then slap the cams on. o2 and ported manifold should help with spool as would an LICP. Earlier spool helps provide more "low end."

Is the MBC trully necessary? I thought Al can adjust the PSI by 2 or 3 through the tunning. Is the BOV necessary as well? I would never vent, should I still look for a replacement. Any recommnedations.

03 BOV is a pos,so you need a new one.You can consider Forge,05 Metal or 1G DSM one.The software can't up the boost by too much and not flexible.
