'07 STI vs Evo IX round II
I'm sorry, but once again I have to question some things. Al you have made more power from IXs with out cams, and this one has cams. I mean a IX with 91 octane just made 361whp with Cams and your DD dyno reads similiar to Dyno Jets. I mean I hate to say it, but all these comparisons between STIs and EVOs is only showing me one thing, and that is that perhaps your ability to tune IXs is off lately. Oh no I said it, time to get flamed by the Al fan club.

Upper fmic pipe kit
Higher flow cat
Forge actuator
I chose not to include that data as his car is obviously way more modified at that level than the STI
Make no mistake - I have tuned many a powerful Evo IX for sure
I am trying to compare cars with similar levels of boost and on the same dyno
As time goes on I am sure that more data will be forthcomming

Some of you guys are not seeing my concept in these tests clearly
The idea is not to find the most powerful IX EVO I ever dynoed vs the 07 STI
The idea is to take what ever 07 STI's that come in for tuning and match them up against similarly modified Evo IX's which were on the same dyno so we can over lay the dyno sheets
By looking at the repsective power charts - members can draw intleligent data about the two cars' power band
I really don't get it why so many get some kind of infeirority complex over this data ?>

^I agree with you AL. Everyone knows that mod for mod the evo will always put out more power. However these tests are done to show that at similar mods and boost levels on the same type of gas the 07 sti can hold its own against an evo. Keep up the good work.
Aw cmon now guys, its just a few harmless dynos, no need to get your panties in a bunch because you think you need to defend the evo. Fact of the matter is the sti is gaining ground, and subaru is making a better car, this is a good thing! The cars are very evenly matched, and who has the upper hand is a matter of subjective opinion in almost all cases. And quite frankly, the folks over there at nasioc are handling this information with much more humility than what ive seen in these threads.
it seems like even the older STIs made more "power" on the dynos alot of the time but when it comes to performance at the track for whatever reason they just do not perform up to par

Ok,
1st Note: The dyno sheet comparison is from my car. In all my dynos we have been using 1.10 correction factor. Now if they decided to use higher correction factor on other tunes, obviously the numbers are going to be different!!! For example... There was an 05 Evo 8 with Evo IX turbo, HKS280s, AMS intercooler, AMS piping kit, AMS turbocak no cat no resonators, HKS Intake, fuel pump on pump gas the car made 323-325whp. This was the same day, Saturday 24th of March when we tuned mine! i don't know what cf they used though... That car did really well i should say but way to loud for my ears!!!
2nd Note: Indeed my car made that much power with the mods posted by Al, but Saturday we found out that i had a small boost leak. Simple things.... when i connected my manual boost controller i tapped one side of the hose going from the turbo nipple to the electronic controller and on that line there was a t-connector which the other side was just hanging free... crazy isn't it?
3rd Note: After the dyno that Al posted i installed the wastegate and intecooler with the stock piping kit plus the o2 housing. The car made this with knock with exactly 23.5 psi spike on 93...

4th Note: Before the Subaru we installed a Random Technologies cat in the place of the UR cat and also installed the Nisei intercooler piping kit. After that Big Al tuned the car again.
The following dynosheet is comparing my 344whp dyno with the knock...

As you can see at exactly 22.5psi spike the car made INSANE torgue and decent power gains, although that day was a much hotter day and probably the gas i used was not even 91 octane!!! The car kept knocking for some reason and there was no way to up the boost further...
Simply after Al tuned the car properly without knock the gains were REDICULUS!!! Forget the topend. Clearly i was making much less boost than before thus there was no way in hell to keep the top end high! However, check how the car changed from the spool and all the way to 5500rpm!
With less boost, crappy gas, higher tempratures the car made at 3400rpm 90ft-lbs more torgue and until a bit after 5000rpm the torgue gains and power exceed the previous figures by far!!! We drove the car on the highway with Al at the wheel and i have to say that the car felt rediculus. As soon as you pressed the loud pedal the car would almost jump in front and start keeping speed at incredible rate. I am pretty sure that even the top end was better than the dyno as we could utilise the cold air and rain that day!!!
It is very clear that with proper gas if i raise the boost to even at the previous levels the car will make INSANE power and thats with a C.A.R.B. approved catalytic converter!!!
There are no tricks with the dyno as some might think, i am presenting straight facts!!! 1.10cf not 1.15cf or more ( i was very specific on that subject as i wanted to have a straight comparison with my previous dynos), 4th gear pulls, the car strapped down until the rear suspension was almost done.
A small last thing, when we were adjusting the preload on the wastegate, there were a couple of runs at the region of 24-24.5psi spike... The car made over 370ft-lbs torgue and it was more aggressive and the power was flirting with mid 350s!!! Of course as we say "better be safe than sorry", especially when you run on crappy gas... I am sure if Al wants he can pull out those dynoruns just to have a conversation. Big Al I think they are somewhere in the low 40 runs...
To conclude i will say it again. DYNOFLASH and THE SHOP kick ***!!! Incredibly helpful on everything, incredibly friendly, Al made another insane car which is safe 100% and Jimmy's guys simply ROCK!!! I will post later pictures from my engine bay and you will understand...!!!
