Al tuning the AEM EMS in the Dyno Flash Evo 8 - Video

Here is the start of a long series of videos on tuning the AEM EMS in my Dyno Flash Evo 8 for this year

I have a new turbo on my car and made a few other changes over the winter - along with a new EMS box - time to retune the car and get it running for the new year

I am sick of hearing all the cry babies claim that "I do not even tune my own race car" So this time I am making a video of the process which details what is involved in taking a base AEM MAP provided by my good friend master David Buschur and adjusting it to my car and getting it up and running and hitting the track.

I wish I was closer to Ohio so I could just take the car there and let David work his magic on it but sadly I dont have the luxury of time and need to get the car running and out to the track.

Let me interject - that guy Buschur can build some f ing motors. Since I got sponsored by him for a motor - the thing had lasted and lasted and lasted - its over a year old and still kicking. Amazing considering the abuse its been through. He built a spare for me but its still sitting over in ohio relaxing in the engine room.

As you can see the car does not tune itself - it requires work and time.

This thread will be a series of videos as the entire process takes a lot of time.

I will not show or disclose timing values or a/f targets or any specific race settings - all of which are proprietary data. What I am going to desicribe is the general process of tuning and show how I go about dialing in the car and adjusting all the maps and also

what it is like driving and tuning a 900 whp vehicle on the road

In the end of the second video you can see how fast the car takes off on full boost - it does not take long to reach the rev limiter

The initial video may seen very tedious and long - I am setting the gain on the 02 sensor, setting up the rev limits, sensors, TPS, etc etc. All of this is important to check before you run the car.

The second video shows setting up the rad fan and adjusting the idle - driving on small roads and then a 3rd gear pull at full boost

There will be more videos to follow as I get the car sorted out and ready to hit the track

Thanks Al for the videos....

I'm planning on getting the AEM wideband 02 and/or the AEM serial gauges soon....I'll probably be seeking help on getting everything set up and calibrated with my AEM EMS.... but I am pretty much familiar with everything you were trying to show us in VID 1

Its a fun car to drive for sure, you just have to make sure that you have a lot of room in front of you when it comes on boost as it eats up the road very quickly, that and have the wheels pointed staight ahead!

I am running a Cobb Access Port pro tuned (myself) in the STI thus far - its up to 550 at the wheels at 31 psi and that is about as far as I can go on the stock ecu. I was using ecutek till I got a AP2 which I really love. Right now the STI is sidelined with 07 tranny gear set on back order - whould be another few weeks.

As far as the Evo - I have no plans with it other than to enjoy it and go fast.

I will prob make the DSM shootout.

All the other races are too silly for me - the rules are getting over bearing and a real buzz kill. Test and tune nights appeal to me more as its a time i can just relax and have fun.

Al, on the 1st video:

when the engine is not running, shouldnt the wideband be reading >> than 14.7...and not stoichiometric burn for gasoline?

In order to set the gain to adjust the gauge to the EMS - the instructions say you should leave the gauge on but disconnect the sensor - which will default to 14.7 / 1

It is this value that is used to calibrate the ems to the guage by adjustin the "gain"
