Attention : We are seeing a trend on several evos we have tuned
One piece alum pulleys are great on your accs such as a/c or power steering
DO NOT put on on your crank pulley under any circumstances
The Dyno Flash will not function properly IF you have such a pulley
The stock pulley is also a HARMONIC DAMPENER which reduces harmonics in the engine
The removal of this device increases knock sound which causes the ecu to pull timing
The installation of one of these pullies is NOT compatable with any dyno flash
Thank you
PS - I am not aware of structural - long term issues of these pullies over time and have no comment

Hmm.. So what your really saying is I should ditch the pulley.
On David's word alone I have been thinking about it but if you really see considerablely more knock activity with them then maybe I will ditch it.
OT: You still going to E-town on the 28th? Might come see it.

First off - when Dave Buschur tells me something about 4g63 - I found out the hard way that you can accept it as a fact - Dave has already been down all these roads. Dan at Pruven - anothed well noted 4g63 authority also warns against these kinf of pulleys in this application. They are talking crank failures - not engine noise. I have not seen any of that yet - but just on their warning you wont see one on my car.
Secondly - I have seen this on 6 evos now and ALL of them had to be retarded on my normal timing curves 2 - 3 degrees to stay under the knock window - approx 12 - 20 whp losses
Third - we are going to test my theory tomorrow on the dyno so you may want to wait till tomorrow night

Oh - and almost forgot - I just replaced my head with the new design tonight - - I am putting bigger turbo wheels on also
IF it runs and dont blow up in tuning then I plan on being at the opener on the 28th to go for the gusto
My plan this season is no nos - just turbo and a 10.99 - we'll see how many parts I break in the hunt!

Is this a problem with the stock ecu? Or will the pulleys have a positive effect?I just ordered them last week and am expecting them early this week. I dont have a dynoflash just a s-afc-II. Am i still gonna have problems??
Thanx

This noise resonates particularly loudly at 6,000 rpms and up
The stock knock sensor "hears" this as knock and starts pulling ign timing
I believe this would happen on any evo stock or tuned - however the condition would prob be worse when you are running more ign timing and leaner
I have tuned 6 evos with the pullies (they were all weak cars and on all of them I suspected bad gas and had to pull ign timing ) and finally today I was able to put two and two together and realized there was a pattern after I saw a dyno sheet of a Evo tuned by another tuner which was only making just over 300 whp with 272 cams, a vishnu signature exhuast, intake, boost controller, and the crank pulley - I would have expected over 320 whp with that set up so when i saw the weak tune with the other tuner I started to brain storm and thats when I realized that all these weak evos with loud engines all had these same pullies
I won't know for sure 100% till I complete the A - B test on the dyno with this guy tomorrow - however . . . .
After Dave Buschur mentioned his serious disaproval of these pullies - that was enough to deter me
