An EVO adventure! 48 hours, 1100 miles and 6 passes in the 11's
I love my EVO 8
I have just had the most crazy 48 hours of my life
I drove down to Maryland from CT this weekend and did some dyno tuning at Agile Automotive
- I drove my trustworthy Evo 8 down there on Thursday night late in snow and freeezing rain that awd really came in handy
I wanted to have my car there to take some guys for rides and show how my car runs on pump gas and show that it can travel a distance and stay in one piece.
On Saturday I was tunning customer's Evos all day from 9 am till 2 am when a local police lady literally threw me out of town and I hit the road headed for Englishtown and the Toyo Tires Import Survival Series
I go there at 5:00 a.m. poured in a can of C-16 did a few passes up and down the road to dial in my new intake manifold from Magnus and and was at the track by 9:00 a.m.
I was literally tuning the car at the track with my motec wideband on the dash making adjustments after each pass
I ran a best trap speed time ever of 125 mph - 11.61 without NOS
and the full interior - just the way I drove in off the highway
I was the 2nd fastest qualifier in the AWD class and after 6 crazy tires spining wild sideways 11 second passes I came in second and took home $100 and a nice trophy
The best part of the day was bumping the new STI's out of the show and into the parking lot where they belong (they could not even break 100 mph!)
I in a hotel for a few hours and today I repaired a leaky fuel hose, jumped in my car and drove 12 straight hours to Chatanooga, Tenn to tune a few evos
On the way down, I adjusted my stand alone ecu to max out the crusing mileage so I would not have to stop for gas too many times and yielded an amazing 33 mpg !!!!!!!!
I could not believe how well the Evo did on these nice smooth southern intersates - with the new roll bar it feels as solid as a benz crusing at 100 - its like I am blended man and machine as one like a bird flying down the highway. I really do not get much of a chance to do long highway runs back up North as there is far too much traffic and congestion. I love the feeling of being strapped into my seat with my Sparco harness and just rolling along at triple digits
Honestly - I was kind of sad when I finally reached the exit for the hotel where I was meeting the guys for the tunning session tonight - I was listening to a great song on my XM and McIntosh sound system and buzzing along at about 90 on a straight open road - I did not want to stop - even after 12 hours straight
I jumped out feeling refreshed and ready to go out and drive some more !
The evo is an amazing machine without equal, not many machines are capable to achieving those kind of numbers on the track and go on 1,000 miles of highway driving over the span of a few days
For any of you who saw the movie Kill Bill - the evo is like Japanese Steel - its the real deal, the machine it will slice and dice all comers
I am trying to push the limits of how far the evo can go, what it can do, I am searching for the limitations. . . . but so far it seems anything is possible

Al, you pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. My buddy and I were having basically the same conversation about the Evo the other day. The Evo is truly a great machine and I absolutely am amazed by it and I have owned some truly fast cars in my time, but never one that could do it all like the Evo. Now only if I still lived in Chattanooga, cause I would love to have you tune my car. Ever think about coming to MN???
Just love your posts, Big Al. It's great to be on the Dynoflash path. Thanks to our fearless leader, taking us (safely) into realms previously unheard of. You share the same passion for the Beast fom the East, as us. I can't imagine a better ride on 4 wheels on these here shores. You translate all the facts and stats, into real world experience. Keep it comin, mang

Al, what was your fastest time and mph in the 1/8th and did the track officials give you any beef about your new roll bar? I've always been one to find driving to the track, throwing down some good numbers, and driving home, very impressive. Good job!
