Well...the stand alone replaces the existing ECU with the new unit. Cost can go anywhere from about 1500-2000. Check with AMS for the AEM EMS unit. Martin there is an awesome knowledge base for AME EMS settings and usability. He even helped AL out with a problem he had with his. Turned out to be a software problem and Martin figured it out right away!

Give them a call...847-709-0530. Thye will be able to help you out.

We could achieve the same MPG with the reflash or safc - its juts a matter of running it super lean and staying off the boost

i didn't do it to save $ - i did it b/c i was bored on the trip and wanted to occupy my brain and also so i would have to make less frequent stops

For example - I made it all the way through PA over 320 miles and about 50 miles in OH without stopping - just went a straight 90 mph off boost and did not hit the gas once - late night with no traffic also helped

Al by staying off the boost, you mean adjusting the boost controler to something like 12 psi, right?

No...staying off boost means not getting on the throttle much. If you have a boost gauge it's REALLY easy to do this...just keep your eye on the gauge as you accelerate. Make sure it doesn't move much off of 0 on the gauge....that way your staying off boost...in effect increasing your gas mileage
