my impression of my tune, car feels a very very smooth.. But i lost the initial 3.5 Turbo punch i use to have.. it smooth out the middle of the RPM for me.. but i lost the Top end punch i had with my Hks boost controller... Not to mention my boost was tappering off to 17.8 and AL kept on reassuring me that HKS boost controller gauges reads a little lower.. I felt very skeptical because maybe he was just trying to move on to his next customer... Oh yea on the way home.. it was just me and another friend in the car.. and some sentra Spec V wanted to race from a roll, from first.. That guy kept up with me a little until the mid-end of 2nd... and all he had was an intake.... Before the Tune i was rolling on 3 of my friends E46 M3... beating them from a roll by 1 car and a half... I guess i'll have to call up my friends and race them again to see if my car got any faster.... Is the money back guarentee still in the offers
I just met with Taiwan Evo to do some re-testing ohis car with vaious boost settings
Amzingly - my tune wa so dead on acurate that we were able to turn up the boost to 22.1 psi under high 70 degree hot conditions wth ZERO evidnce of detonation or knock
The timing was ROCK steady een t 22.1 ps and 91 octane pump gas and stock fmic

I stil strogly advise all customes to run 19.5 psi on 91 octane to allow a resoable margin of error and saftey

It was nice to see the boost holding so steay and the car puling that smooth and fat in this heat today in LA

Thanks o Taiwan Evo or coming ack for a re-test and returning my nvrters

Hi Al,
remember me? The white EVO that you tuned and smoked a black STI on the way back. Guys, Al and I smoked a black STI on our way back from tuned. It was so excited. The guy in the STI is really surprise (but he's cool). We started from about 5 mph roll from side-by-side upto about 85 mph and my car smoked the STI about 4 car-length. Al was driving it and he had one of the best launch.
Anyway, my car is very smooth now with AVO turbo-back, K&N drop-in, Blitz-EBC, and HKS 264/272 cams... and of course Dynoflashed. The flash is good.

How much does this dyno tuning cost, and what do I need (Ex. XEDE reflash)? I am interested if the price is right. Please let me know when you get a chance (P.S. I pm'ed you dynoflash).

Of course I remember you!

It was prob the most fun i had in months when we rolled up on the smug STI guy with his new toy. It was down right comical when i rolled down the window and engaged him in conversation and he was so convinced his STI was the faster car.

It was real cool to give him my whole "Do you know what Subaru is spelled backwards" . . . and "too bad you bought a SLOWbaru" ETC ~!!!!! It was funny after my verbal dressing down the STI guy felt compelled to follow us up to a super convienient red light !

Thanks for letting me show the STI guy which end is up ! The STI guy was flogging his brand new STI like John Force and your EVO pulled him by at least 4 cars with easy smooth start and slow careful shifting.

Most importantly - thanks for letting me work on your car again. It runs very very well and consistant and this was the 2nd time we had short, easy work of tuning it.

I'll never forget those rides we took up on 101 north of LA - some wonderful scenery and great roads for driving and tuning. All the better to be enjoying them in a well sorted evo

Good seeing you again - please keep in touch !

My base through the mail reflash costs $199.99 and is individually calibrarted to suit your evo's level of modification

You simply send it in via fed ex and then you get it back out the same day for delivery the next am

Alternatively - we do local tuning on a custom basis here in the NY tri-state area

AND - we also do many tuning trips to cities throught the uSA

Basically 5 guys for tuning and we will go anywhere on one week's notice

wow that's a good experience heh.....the thing that stood out to me during my turning session was when Al and I was looking for a 100 octane unocal station @ like 3 in the morning and blazed by a cop in the gas station.....I thought we were gonna get shat on for sure as Al asked me if I had insurance and registration. =O It was funny as hell, the cop got on the freeway afterwards with us and followed us for awhile. I'm glad I found the energy to stick around the whole day because the tune was definitely worth it. Thumbs up to Al and all the other great evo guys I met that day....all very nice guys. =)

The funny thing is that most times I do my best work late in the night - early in the am when the roads are clear

BTW bro - check out the new super street. They have an atricle and dyno sheet from the Works cams you have They made like 260 ft lbs and 290 whp with the cams and the throttle body mod with a full exhuast and their flash. When I drove your car it did feel a bit weaker than the HKS cam care even the 264's - especially on the top end. After seeing the Works's dyno sheet on their cams - it seems that your car is right in line with that level of power. Basically, it looks to me like the Works cams are right between the stock ones and the HKS 264 in power.

I would love to see your car on the dyno to get a number to comapre.

I would be willing to wager you the cost of the dyno sheet that your car is making significantly more wheel trq than 260!

Make sure you go to a dyno jet dyno so the numbers have some value as that is the kind of dyno sheet that they used in the Super Street Article apparantly.

As for the cops - so far I have been lucky - 160 street tuned evos under my belt and not a ticket yet !

Anyone know the lift specs on the works cams? I assume those who bought them at least asked.

Yeah Al, I'm definitely sticking this car on a dyno.....I'm just kind of scared to see the numbers since 300whp was really my goal with all this stuff on it. I'm gonna stick it on a dynodynamics dyno since those are the closest dynos around me and I can compare the gain with my previous dyno session.....I don't know, my car has always felt slow to me compared to others with just bc, turboback, fuel pump, and intake. *shrug* that's why I was all paranoid about it and asking you about the car while you were dirt tired tuning haha. =)

Works never told me specific lifts for the cams, because they say they're measured differently compared to the way hks measures them....but in comparison, they said the intake side had a lower lift while the exhaust side has a higher lift compared to the hks cams.

Dyno Dynamics dyno numbers are uselss for use in comparision to others for several resons including teh fact that they have numreous user defined adjustments which can alter the figure

Go to a Dyno JET - that way we will have some useful information which can be used to draw informative comparisions with our known data base - including the Works Super street dyno sheet

IMHO - 260 ft lbs and 290 whp is very low for a cam equiped car

The Buschur economy kit with the Buschur Flash makes much more whp and trq at 1/13th the cost

I typically see 290 ish whp on cars with no cams with 3" exhuast and boost controller and in the 320 range with cars that have cams - and some cars with cams are in the 330- 340 whp range AND they all make just as much trq as whp

When driving your car - it did not feel like a cam shaft equiped car - it felt like a car without cams

Thats why I would be very curious to see the DYNO JET numbers

Its interesting that the manufacturer of the cams is claiming low trq numbers and low whp numbers - so maybe they had something other than performance in mind when designing those cams ? I am at a loss

Ok Al;
I just found a dynojet in LA @ Los Angeles Performance Division....shockingly, it seems to be on canoga ave as well -_- I will try to schedule something with them this weekend and get my car dynoed on their dynojet. I'll let you know how it turns out and send the sheets over.

It will be super interesting to see how the power is on those Works cams

My but dyno says 300 even to the wheels - and a bit low for all the mods you have - we'll see how accurate it is

I have some general guidlines for dyno jet dyno work to assure accuracy - call me and I will fill you in on the procedures. I'd like you to follow my procedures so the numbers are concsisitant with the ones we get over here. That is the wonderful think about dyno jet - there is no way to screw with the numbers - they all read the same
