Socal dynoflash results

Hi guys;
I figure I start a thread on the results of the dynoflash weekend @ woodland hills. I was thinking since I started it, I want to end it by hearing everyone's experiences and results from Al's flashes. I got home just about 1.5 hours ago and barely made it to work =O But the flash is worth it, I don't know per say how much power I'm making, but the powerband is smooth as hell.....so smooth I can't believe I'm driving the same car....amazes me.....Al wasn't too crazy about my works cams but worked around it and everything seems great....even with me running higher boost than the norm 19.5 on 91 octane, ,Al was able to achieve great ignition timing and super safe A/F's of 11.1-11.2 all the way across the powerband. Special greets to everyone I met for the first time out there in woodlands.....this is kind of my first "evo" meet type deal and I've never seen so many evos gathered together and everyone was nice. And this is also the first time I got to ride other people's evos....damn they pulled so hard. I am truly jealous. Special greets out to those I talked with pretty much throughout the whole time bluuuur (matt) was cool and was willing to share his tracking advice....ev8sive was nice to talk to and was nice enough to let me have a ride in his car (good luck with the insurance bs braiden....I hope you get that taken care of).....and I hope Ramon from oceanside got home to his family ok. =) Oh yeah...I was the guy that drove the white one with the volk wheels. I met so many of you guys out there that it's hard to keep track of names....and a lot of people just had all these nice evos and took off before I had a chance to look @ them. But overall, although I stayed there for 14 hours....it was a lot of fun, and I hope everyone else had fun. Have a wonderful day everyone.

What up! Sorry for taking off before you guys got back I wanted to ride in that thing after it was done, just too beat! Glad you ended up making it home in time for work. It was definately cool meeting you and the rest of the gang out there.

Ramons car was night and day, the tune really brought those mods to life! Roberts blue evo sounded awesome, needs to get that boost controller in there. And I forgot his name but that black evo w/ K&N, Turboback, and MBC SCREAMED like a banshee out of hell! Al pumped that flash into my car and it feels even faster than before, just keeps on pulling and pulling and pulling until I'm leaving flame trails on the ground and ending up in 1982. I can't wait to put the exhaust on and get it goin.

I got a chance to ride in a few more Dynoflashed cars and I've got to say, this is the best bang for your buck you will find anywhere! I went in there wanting to flash back to stock in preparation for a UTEC and left without remorse of staying with the flash.

A big thanks goes out to Al for his time spent out here and patience with everyone. The experience alone was worth the 3 hours of sleep I got this morning, and I'm sure Al will be asleep all the way home!

Car feels great. Best $200 i ever spent. It was great meeting everyone. I spoke to a few people about Al months before i met him and lots of people said he was a jerk.... I thought he was a great guy. Really cool guy.

Oh Al, my boost controller is supposed to be bale to handle 30 psi of boost. Are you sure thats the problem with mine tapering? It was holding boost just fine when we test drove it the first time remember. Then all of a sudden it wasnt holding anymore. Are there any other possibilities other than the manual bc? Is it possible the ecu put the boost taper back to stock? What could it be? I'm going to try a Buscher manual boost controller a friend of mine has laying around. IF that helps then great, if not, i dun think its the BC.

I had a great time and met a couple of really cool guys... One of them was BRIAN from 818Racing,Nice guy...... I was there at 6pm there was this other guy when I just got there nice white evo with cams...took a ride and man that thing had pull, cant wait to get my cam gears in for the next tune

Anyways AL was great,I already had the mail in flash but since then I added a 3inch downpipe, test pipe and walbro pump........

Al showed me that I was running a bit lean in the midrange and rich in the upper RPM...

Mine took about 12 pulls since my BOV was leaking a bit and was getting a bit of variation on boost. Anyways on second to that last pull we noticed boost was too low so we raised it, got it perfect 11.00-11.30 AFR...but running boost a bit too high,he checked ignition timing and was pulling a bit, he did couple of more slight adjustments lowered the boost about 2 psi and he showed me the ignition timing was PERFECT... Im running about 1.5 bar on spike then settles to about 20-21 psi

Thats whats good about AL he shows you exactly whats going on...

When I got the car by myself I totally felt the difference in power also the increased boost helped but what Im really happy about is that I know the car is running perfect with my mods and perfectly safe....HE mentioned STI would be no problem

THANX TO AL

With a MBC the ECU has no control over the boost anymore.
Try checking and tightening all the clamps on the intake/IC piping.
It's worth a shot.

Yeah, I wish I could of gotten a ride in that black car....I wonder if he had any of that xylene stuff he was talking about in the car when he ran it....Al says that car will probably pull on mine. =) Honestly though, I feel like my car doesn't pull as hard as ev8sive or ramon's evo, but it could be because I'm driving and while Al's driving, my body = numb from fatigue and couldn't feel anything heh. Btw evolife4, keep up the great work on ur car, I love how clean that thing is (even though he considers it dirty). =) I think it's off to the dynos I go with my car....hopefully making my 300whp....if not oh well, I'm done with this one for awhile. =)

Hey guys

I am at my supplier in Gasline Alley in LA

I delayed my trip home becuase I was up so late at night trying to get all the cars done that were there

As many of you know - we ran into a problem when one of my cables developed a slight intermitant short and despite having complete back up set of all cables - I was short the one cable that I needed

I was finally able to get everything sorted out on a table at my hotel and then i did not want to move the equipment

As a result I had to trek up and down the elevator into my hotel about 100 times to make all the adjustments I needed

I was able to get ALL the cars tuned 100% perfect and I feel that in some cases I achived some amazing results that amazed me on the 91 ocatne

Some of the 91 ocatne tunes we got were just as fast as 93 octane - after a lot of practice i have a really great way of dealing with the 91 octane

I am sorry for getting very short tempered and irritable towards the final home strech - after 4 days of 18 hours and sleeping only a few hours at a time - I was really at the end of my rope and finding it very hard even to think straight as the hours wore on Sunday

I am also sorry for the few guys who were delayed later than thier appointments due to the problems with the equipment

Special thanks to Matt for helping me out all weekend with removing ecus and also to KASH099 for going above and beyond trying to help me fix my cpu - even taking apart my lap top in the process

All I can say is that it has been the best 4 days of my life. I am truely greatful for the opportunity to have worked on so many evos - I am very pleased and satisfied with the results that were optained

they were behind like 2 hours or so.. i got there waited for a long time.. I guess i didnt' have that great of an experience as all you had... Everything felt so rushed for me, my custom session took about only like 45 minutes.. I couldn't really ask much questions or really express really what i wanted to say cus he was too busy working and trying to make up for the lost time.. His own laptop wasn't working properly...

my impression of my tune, car feels a very very smooth.. But i lost the initial 3.5 Turbo punch i use to have.. it smooth out the middle of the RPM for me.. but i lost the Top end punch i had with my Hks boost controller... Not to mention my boost was tappering off to 17.8 and AL kept on reassuring me that HKS boost controller gauges reads a little lower.. I felt very skeptical because maybe he was just trying to move on to his next customer... Oh yea on the way home.. it was just me and another friend in the car.. and some sentra Spec V wanted to race from a roll, from first.. That guy kept up with me a little until the mid-end of 2nd... and all he had was an intake.... Before the Tune i was rolling on 3 of my friends E46 M3... beating them from a roll by 1 car and a half... I guess i'll have to call up my friends and race them again to see if my car got any faster.... Is the money back guarentee still in the offers

Let me know how you fair with the race against your friend

IF you run some 100 octane fuel - then feel free to turn up the boost

With the 91 octane you have the 19.5 psi and taper to just under 18 at red line was the highest boost we could run without having to really turn down the ign timing

Most if not all cal 91 octane tunes i do have the same if not exact boost taper

it may be less that waht you had before - BUT - the ecu will now hold the ign timing better - its safetr for your engine and the power band will stay ultra smooth

The power band being very smooth is a wonderful feeeling - but does come at the expense of the wild hit when the HIGH boost kicks in - on that kind of set up - you can slam in the boost hard but then the ecu will pull timing through the middle of the power band - leaving you with a rough power curve

This is why I prefer to maintain a more steady and conservative boost on 91 octane

We are not really interested in the ultra high peak whp figures on 91 ocatne - rather i seek a super smooth power band and total absense of any detonation what so ever

You should experience ROBI's car with the NASCAR race fuel he uses - we spike to 25 psi on that with ZERO knocks

If you want to make a lot more power on ocassion - just try out the trick 100 octane pump gas or the 76 100 octane pump gas and then you can turn the boost to 21.5 psi and tapering down to 19.5 at red line - that will give you the kick you need - BUT on your particular car -it would not hold the knock free smooth power I want with any more than the 19.8 peak I set

One more thing - as I said in 99.99 % of cases the figures displayed on the HKS EVC V screens are slightly lower than actual boost

In your case my instruments showed your HKS display was appox 1/2 psi low

I suggest a boost gauge as a back up before you start turning the boost to the hills

Finally - sadly you left without comiing back to report your impressions of the test ride. If you did not feel enough power at that time I could have made some adjustments to step up the tune. As you did not return and give me your impression - theer was no way for me to know how you felt.

I am still in LA for another 40 hours or so - please call me and I can push up the tune a LITTLE harder for you if you desire to be on the more agressive side - there is 3 - 5 more whp we can add in - of course at the expense of the margin of saftey that we build into to every tune - your call

Also - you left so fat - I am nearly 90% sure you took off with BOTH my power inverters in your back seat - I would like to get those back

Thanks again - nice to meet you

Ahhh, that would explain the way my boost tapers I guess heh. I think one of the main reasons I dun fell like my car is fast fast is because of what Al claims and did....a VERY smooth power band....I think that is more important than turning up the boost by 1-2 psi and achieving a bit more kick @ the expense of pulling timing. And I'm sorry you did not make your flight Al, I got back to san diego about 20 minutes before work....and I'm staying alive by the triple shot espresso I had on the way back. =X Let's hope it lasts.

It was good meeting you this weekend Al. . The baseline flash seems to work quite well and it's easy to spot where the addtl hp was hiding!

But as you are aware, it did not cure my 0300 problem.

Same here. Nice meeting you and the other guys and despite the tech problems, we got it tuned well. I am very pleased with the results. I think my palm prints are still on the passenger side door from the 3rd gear pulls in traffic , but Al knows how to drive, for sure.

Couple questions that I forgot to get. Since I had the base flash, is the custom street tune called the Fireball or does it have the fireball technology?

Also, if I don't get anymore mods on the car, the street tune that you did, is that tune set and will not change itself? Meaning, the A/F you dialed in and timing, will the tune stay in the range you set it and stay there and will not alter itself over time and need to be re-tuned?

Thanks again, Al. You pulled through for everyone, despite your technical problems.

For those of you not there on Saturday, Bishiboy and I had back-to-back appointments and we both drove 4-5 hours that day to get there. Al had to finish an earlier appointment and made sure the owner was happy despite being behind schedule. Bishiboy allowed me to go before him even though he had the earlier session. Al got mine done very quickly and made up some time and got Bishiboy done also and was working on two cars at the same time Saturday night. I was very pleased with my tune even though it was a short session thanks to DocMortal who had basically the same mods and Al used his baselines for me and dialed it in in three to five pulls.
