The way I see it, it'll be win-win.
1. The new engine in the X will probably be mechanically compatible with Ethanol, as far as corrosion resistance, if not delivery and tuning. It would make sense for Mitsu's new engine to be able to handle E85.
2. Though there are production and delivery issues with Ethanol now, I think they will be worked out to some degree in the near future. I think that, in the next 10 years, E85 will become cheaper while Gasoline will undoubtedly become more expensive. It will get to a point where the difference between Premium and E85 will be enough to make the loss in mileage a moot point.
3. As it is, the price difference between 100+ octane Race fuel and E85 is already worth it. I'd be able to tune for 100+ octane for my every-day tune. I'm in MA now, but I plan to move to Ohio by the end of the year. And looking at the likely area I'll be in, there are quite a few E85 stations nearby. I'd only have to worry about it if I travel.
4. Lower emissions? I could probably pass an inspection with an aggressive tune and a test pipe!

However, I don't think it's worth doing until I start tuning. Granted we dont' know what capacity the X's fuel system will have, but it will definately need a tune for E85 (unless it's unveiled as a Flex Fuel vehicle, but there isn't so much as a peep about that.) So I'll wait until I start modding for power.
