Might move to Cali
Prob gonna move to NorCal in the fall and was wondering, is it thrue u can only get like 91 octane fuel there? Also is there a place to get 100 octane?
There are a couple area gas stations with 100 at the pump and a number of shops that carry 100 in cans. A few places you can get higher octane leaded as well.
But yeah by and large it's 91.

You will be fine with emisions for a good few years even after you register your car here. There was a post somewhere about that. I suggest you search...it should be here in the West Regional...
As for getting 100...try tuner shops which usually carry 76 & VP fuels and also http://www.76.com/ has a 100 octane station finder...So does Sunoco, but I don't think there are any Sunoco stations in Cali. Not sure though...

From the sounds of it, the "new cars don't get smogged for 4 years" rule only applies if you are a CA resident and you purchase your new car in state.
SC~

I moved back and forth from San Diego to Vegas and both states are very strict with registering out of state cars. Yes, you will need smog, even though the car is new. You are bringing it to Cal and they want a smog record on their machines. Also, look for the sticker under your hood for emmissions. If it does not say "meets California emmissions", you have to pay what is called a smog impact fee. It runs upwards of $500. I'm pretty sure all new cars sold in the U.S. meet cal standards. Back in 1993, my Prelude did not have this and I had to pay the fee coming from Nevada.
It's best you change your license, registration and insurance to have piece of mind. If you have an accident, you are screwed if they find out you are a resident and have not switched your car. They don't mess around out here. The state wants every dollar they can get and are entitled to.
One other thing, when locals, especially in CA see an out of state plate, they automatically assume you don't know where you are going and they drive stupid and try to pass. We deal with that everyday in Vegas due to the large numbers of tourists and new residents. It's best to be and feel like a local wherever you live.
Good luck in Cal and enjoy the weather.
Oh, and don't be shocked about the registration costs. You may pay upwards of $400 to register an Evo. You cali guys should know an exact figure. I payed almost $500 in Nevada to register my Evo
