Most others I target 11.8-12.2 depending on their intended usage (Street, Drag, Road Course).

For fuel economy at cruise, around town, additional timing helps and making sure scaling and latency is as optimized as possible.

Thanks, for the info. Did you touch any of the Open Loop tables?

No not currently. I messed around for a couple months with them running about 15.5-16.2 at cruise but I didn't see a significant change in mileage.

Hey Bryan, what AFR's should I aim for during lean spool on E85? I disabled lean spool, so I have to lean out my AFR's during spool up. Right now its at 12.8, till I hit full boost then it drops back down to 12.1-12.2..

So 14.7 vs 15.7 didn't net any significant change?

Right around 12.0 is a happy medium.

I'm going to be converting this week to e85 and was going to try changing my fuel maps. I have read that ~12:1 is the magic spot. My map now spools in the 12's dips at 10.8:1 then leans out a little to low 11's. Should I just lean it out a little more and then leave it alone and work on the timing?

No need to go richer than 11.5:1. 12:1 is good for street, and perhaps a little richer is good for track use.

Thanks mrfred. Reading through your e85 tuning notes. LOTS of good info!

I filled up with some E85 today and got my trims scaled to +/-1 so I decided to do a log with my leaner fuel map. My afrmap's read 12's and hit high 11's but my uego never went below 12.9 and stayed in the 13's. I tried to richin out the map to compensate but it stayed at 13's. Should I run through a full tank of E85 before I start logging and tuning to get all the pump gas out? I tried to richin out the map to compensate but it stayed at 13's

Lean that sh*t out and make power its just common sense to me! Use the E85 to your advantage people!! I don't see why its so complicated and has to get so complicated... I have never seen a car be happy and consistent as far as knock goes in the mid 11s "on a gas AFR" on E85 and i have tuned quite a few E85 cars now with great success including my own car that makes quite a bit of power.

When i 1st started tuning E85 cars the first thing i noticed was that if u tried to tune it to the A/F ratio you would on pump gas all you will get is frustration and knock left and right... Well according to the stock knock sensor and ECU that is I would personally shoot for mid 12s A/F and AT LEAST 12.0 and go from there. I would say thats a good middle of the road. I target my A/F to 12.5 and it has done very well. I have friends etc that have tuned for 13.0 and even seen some leaner with great results and absolutely no damage or negative effects over extended periods of excessive reaming and 1/4 mile passes... street/highway runs etc. I wouldnt go much leaner then low 13s to keep it safe but thats my personal opinion from my own experience. Although i have seen some guys run it at mid 13s... I dont tune my car like that or anyones car im tuning.

interesting.

I just converted to E85 this past week, and i HATE life right now. it knocks like a sonofab****. AFR's have ranged from the 10.5-11.8 range trying diff afrs out.

not only that, but my timing drops like a hammer up top.

this never happened w/ pump/meth nor race gas on my car...so i'm trying to figure out if my car is picky w/ e85, or if there is something else wrong with it.

definately gunna have to try low 12s and see how it does for my knock count.

great link!

That sucks I thought we would have E85 here year round.
What does a volatility class of 2 in the winter mean?

Nevermind. Found it.

Class 1 = E85 = minimum 79% ethanol
Class 2 = E75 = minimum 74% ethanol
Class 3 = E70 = minimum 70% ethanol
